On 13 May 1897, Guglielmo Marconi achieved one of the most important milestones in the history of technology — the first wireless communication transmitted over the open sea. The message, sent across the Bristol Channel from Flat Holm Island to Lavernock Point near Cardiff over a distance of 3 miles (4.8 km), simply read: “Are you ready?” https://lnkd.in/gvrgq2He Today, jointly sponsored by IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) and IEEE Microwave Theory & Technology Society (MTT-S), we are proud to launch the IEEE Antenna & Microwave Tech Day to commemorate this historic achievement and celebrate the profound impact of antenna, microwave, and propagation technologies on our modern world. From wireless communications, radar, satellite systems, and sensing technologies to healthcare, autonomous systems, and space exploration, electromagnetic engineering continues to shape the way we live, connect, and innovate. Celebrated globally every year on 13 May, IEEE Antenna & Microwave Tech Day aims to promote public engagement, education, innovation, and community outreach. We encourage IEEE MTT-S/AP-S chapters and RF/Microwave engineering communities around the world to organize activities throughout the week, including workshops, lectures, demonstrations, industry engagement, student activities, and networking events that make these technologies more visible, relatable, and inspiring to society at large. https://lnkd.in/garpwxSr Microwave and antenna technologies are everywhere — powering the invisible infrastructure of our connected world. #IEEE #MTTS #APS #MicrowaveEngineering #Antennas #WirelessCommunications #RFEngineering #Electromagnetics #Innovation #Technology #STEM #Engineering

We are excited to highlight an excellent featured article from our April issue covering a new planar hexagonal coupler. Check out the full paper below, and let us know how you might use this design in your own work! 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲: Planar hexagonal 6-port hybrid couplers to implement the 3-beam Nolen matrix (NM). 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺: 2.28 - 2.61 GHz (2.45 GHz nominal) 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘁𝘆: The six-port hybrid coupler is composed of multiple couplers and phase shifters integrated into a single planar structure. The structure is realized as two hexagons and a series of transmission lines connecting them. The power at each output port can be controlled by the impedance of the transmission lines. 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: • For the 1:1:1 coupler (measured): 5 ± 0.9 dB transmission coefficient, >21.6 dB return loss, 18.8 dB isolation, 0.23 insertion loss, 0.9 dB amplitude and 14° phase worst fluctuations from 2.28 – 2.61 GHz. • For the 1:2:1 coupler (measured): 3.7 ±1 dB and 6.1 ±0.9 dB transmission coefficient, >13.6 dB return loss, >15.8 dB isolation, 0.7 dB insertion loss, 1 dB amplitude and 23° worst phase fluctuations from 2.3 – 2.6 GHz. 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Modern wireless systems that employ MIMO and multibeam antenna arrays. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: https://lnkd.in/g8in3eCQ #ieee #ieeetmtt #mtts #featured
