Indexes are kind of like Jenga. Everything feels stable right up until one tiny change turns the whole thing into a performance incident. Fragmentation, page density, rebuilds vs. reorganizes, and the maintenance decisions that quietly shape query performance over time. 🦆 Quacky inspected the indexes. He likes to avoid unnecessary drama. https://lnkd.in/eaf9Xr4t #SQLServer #DBA #DatabaseManagement #SQLPerformance

Permission debt accumulates quietly. A database role granted during a project stays in place after the project ends. A service account gets sysadmin during a migration because scoping it correctly would have taken another day. A troubleshooting login created during an outage never gets removed. Three years later, nobody remembers any of it. Audit-ready usually comes down to three things: - a documented security baseline - a current-state snapshot - a record of what changed over time Without all three, you can demonstrate a point-in-time permissions state. You just can’t demonstrate control. #SQLServer #DBA #DatabaseSecurity #SQLCompliance #IderaSQL

New day. Same SQL. Same duck. This week: SQL Secure, a SQL Compliance Manager walkthrough on cutting through audit noise, and why SQL DM’s adaptive baselines help make sure you’re never the last one to know something went sideways. 🦆 We’ve secured our spot on Tuesdays. Dive in below. #SQLServer #DBA #IderaSQL #DatabaseManagement

A towel is about the most massively useful thing a DBA can have. You can: ⇢ Wear it as a cape while carrying backups safely through production ⇢ Wrap it around yourself to stay warm during a 2 AM maintenance window ⇢ Wipe the cold sweat off your forehead while the restore hangs at 99% ⇢ Use it to comfort junior DBAs after their first encounter with TempDB ⇢ Throw it dramatically over a monitor displaying “disk space critically low” A good DBA remains calm in moments like these. Mostly because they brought a towel. Happy Towel Day to all the hoopy frood DBAs out there. #SQLServer #DBA #TowelDay #SQLCommunity #DatabaseAdmin #HitchhikersGuideToTheGalaxy

There’s a tiny moving operation happening behind the scenes at This Week in SQL. Quacky seems very committed to it. 🦆📦 Read more below. #SQLServer #DBA #IderaSQL #DatabaseManagement

One stored procedure. One hour inside SSMS. A full live walkthrough of execution plans, key lookups, index strategy, optimizer behavior, and all the ways SQL Server can make choices that seem reasonable right up until they absolutely are not. The biggest takeaway: Index seek and key lookup are basically handcuffed together. And if you want to reduce the blast radius of parameter sniffing, sometimes the index alone is not enough. You have to break the query into phases yourself. Watching Brent test index strategies live, rebuild plans, compare date range behaviors, and show exactly where ChatGPT got the optimizer logic wrong made this one especially good. Huge thanks to Brent Ozar for making a deeply technical topic feel approachable, entertaining, and genuinely fun to follow live, sing-song commentary included ❤️ And to everyone who joined live and filled the Q&A panel with edge cases, optimizer questions, and “wait, why is SQL Server doing THAT?” moments, this one was better because of you. If you missed it live, the recording is worth the watch. https://lnkd.in/eg4NMsMp Quacky is reportedly still trying to separate the index seek from the key lookup. It’s not going well. #SQLServer #DBA #IndexTuning #ParameterSniffing #DatabasePerformance #IderaSQL

The ship is running. The engines are humming. And somewhere in the belly of the data center, a DBA is keeping all of it alive with seventeen different tools open and a coffee that stopped being warm an hour ago. This week: one toolkit that replaces the seventeen, a video that proves it, and a SQL DM feature that tells you what to fix before the call comes in. 🦆 Dive in below #SQLServer #DBA #IderaSQL #SQLAdminToolset #DatabaseManagement

Old audit data piles up faster than sticky notes on a DBA's monitor. Archival settings in SQL Compliance Manager keep your compliance data lean without turning audit history into archaeology. The kind of configuration that takes twenty minutes to set up and saves you a lot of explaining later. 🦆 Quacky archived the old data. He called it spring cleaning. He stands by that. 👉 Watch here → https://lnkd.in/dn3NiYVg

You found the slow query. Now what? That's the part that takes hours. You know something's wrong. You can see the symptoms. But getting from "this query is slow" to "here's the verified fix, here's why it works, and here's the rollback if it doesn't", that's where most of the day goes. That's exactly what this session is about. On May 13, Rey Rios is walking through SQL Diagnostic Manager 14.0 live, Query Monitor and Wait Statistics to isolate what's actually causing the drag, and the new AI-powered optimization features that take you from alert to action without leaving the tool. Full DBA control throughout. Nothing gets applied without your approval. 🦆 Register → https://lnkd.in/eJwTixyU #SQLServer #DBA #IderaSQL #SQLDiagnosticManager #SQLServerPerformance

New project. New database. Same blank DDL file you've been staring at since the last one. This week: a free tool that turns plain English into a schema starting point, a video on keeping compliance data lean without turning audit history into archaeology, and a SQL DM feature that surfaces tuning recommendations before the 2 AM ETL window rolls around. 🦆 Dive in below #SQLServer #DBA #IderaSQL #SQLSchemaGenerator #DatabaseManagement
