  • May is Stroke Awareness Month, a reminder that recognizing the signs of stroke can save a life. Learn to B.E. F.A.S.T.: B = Balance. Is the person unsteady on their feet? E = Eyes. Loss of vision in one or both eyes. F = Face. Face drooping. A = Arm weakness. Can you see one arm dropping if you lift both up? S = Speech. Speech might be slurred, unable to get the right words out. T = Time. It's time to call 911 right away. Understanding your risk factors and symptoms is key to prevention and early treatment.

  • Hawai‘i Pacific Health is grateful for the continued support of Dr. Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg, whose $1.48 million donation will help expand access to advanced imaging services at Wilcox Medical Center on Kaua‘i. This investment will fund a mobile MRI unit to ensure continuity of care during the renovation of Wilcox’s current MRI suite, as well as a new 3D mammography system to enhance breast cancer screening and early detection. This marks their second contribution toward imaging technology at Wilcox and brings their total support for Wilcox programs and services to more than $4 million, including past investments in telemedicine, COVID-19 response, and emergency and trauma care. Partnerships like these help expand access to high-quality care and make a meaningful difference for the Kaua‘i community.

  • Between work, family and busy schedules, convenience foods can be easy to rely on. Many of them are ultra-processed. During National Nutrition Month, Brooke Adachi, RD, a registered dietitian with Hawai‘i Pacific Health’s 360˚ Weight Management Center at Pali Momi Medical Center, encourages a realistic approach to healthier eating. “Start slowly. Don’t make huge changes at once,” Adachi said. Even small steps can support better health over time.
