🚨THREAT ALERT: Iranian state-linked ransomware group #Pay2Key has returned with a significantly upgraded variant - and just encrypted a U.S. healthcare organization in under three hours. Halcyon and Beazley Security jointly investigated the intrusion and what we found is a marked evolution from prior campaigns - built to bypass the detections that worked before. Here's what stood out: 🔹 Attack timing continues to mirror Iranian geopolitical escalations - the financial motive is secondary 🔹 Prior YARA signatures are no longer effective against the new variant 🔹 A fake AV registration tricks Windows into standing Defender down before encryption begins 🔹 Once finished, the group scrubs itself - logs wiped, toolkit deleted, minimal trace left behind 🔹 No data exfiltration was observed, a notable break from their typical double-extortion model This group's objectives go beyond ransom.
