About us
GrowSave is a knowledge exchange programme helping both farmers and growers save energy. The GrowSave project, funded by AHDB, has been helping horticultural growers save energy for over 10 years by facilitating access to the latest technical information on energy saving techniques and technologies to cut use and cost. As a proportion of business variable costs, energy costs can be considerable, particularly in protected cropping which is where the focus of this project lies, providing information on the proper use of screens in your glasshouse all the way through the best available options for energy production. However, this information can be applied across the horticultural sectors and beyond.

⚠️ A small change to your electricity capacity banding could have a big impact on your costs! NESO’s updated half-hourly electricity capacity bandings could unlock major savings for LV and HV supplies. But if your agreed capacity or banding is wrong, you may miss the opportunity completely 👇 Potential savings: 💷 £4–£30/day for LV half-hourly meters 💷 £50–£250/day for HV half-hourly meters The key issue? Once your contract is renewed, challenging incorrect capacity levels becomes much harder. Now is the time to review your supply arrangements and make sure you’re not paying more than you should. The UK government’s new energy relief scheme could cut electricity bills for around 10,000 manufacturing businesses from April 2027. But despite facing some of the highest energy costs of any productive UK sector, horticulture has been left out. For heated glasshouse growers, energy can make up 30–40% of variable production costs. So this exclusion could have serious implications for competitiveness and domestic food production. Why has horticulture been excluded, and what could change?
