  • For many families, pets are family. That reality has a significant impact on how people respond during disasters. As Laura Littlebear , Executive Vice President of Programs at Greater Good Charities, explains: "The two most common patterns are people refusing to leave without their animals and people going back to retrieve them. For most people, pets are family members, so the idea of leaving them behind in a fire or flood is unthinkable." When communities include pets in emergency planning, people are more likely to evacuate quickly and safely. As we recognize National Preparedness Month, we're sharing insights on why pet-inclusive planning is a critical part of effective disaster preparedness. Read the article: https://hubs.ly/Q04ydCR40

  • There are only 2,100 Andean cats in the world. And thanks to our partnership with Wildlife Conservation Society Argentina WCS Argentina , we just captured some on camera - an incredible testament to the work we are doing to protect this incredibly endangered species. We know that many of these moments are made possible by long-term conservation efforts. Habitat protection, wildlife monitoring, and partnerships with local communities all play a critical role in ensuring vulnerable species have a chance to survive and thrive. That's why we are proud to support conservation projects around the world, including efforts to protect critical habitat in Argentina, where camera traps continue to capture images of the elusive Andean cat, one of the most threatened wild cats in the Americas. • A parent standing in the grocery aisle, calculating what can be put back on the shelf. A senior deciding whether to buy food or fill a prescription. A family wondering how to stretch one paycheck through the month while keeping their beloved pet fed and at home. Every community faces unique challenges, but one thing remains constant: people deserve access to the resources they need to care for themselves, their families, and their pets. ❤️ Through our Community Relief Hubs, we are delivering practical, local solutions that address immediate needs while helping build stronger, more resilient communities. • "The disruption of the little infrastructure that was available was tremendous." Greater Good Charities Chief Program Officer Galo Quizanga Zambrano shares an update on Nepal, where devastating flooding has left communities struggling to access critical resources and support. While damaged infrastructure has made relief efforts more challenging, Greater Good Charities is working with local partners under the coordination of the Nepal government to help fund aid. Your donation can help provide clean water filtration, hygiene items for women and children, and other essential supplies for people and pets impacted by this disaster.

  • Gladys didn't choose to need a new home, but she's met it with grace. She was calmly collared with zero stress, walked into the play yard relaxed, and traded gentle greetings with new dog friends like old ones. Never rough, never pushy, just Gladys being Gladys. And through it all, she kept checking back with her handlers for affection, because she loves people as much as she loves other dogs. Today, Gladys boarded a flight from California to the Pacific Northwest, one of 75+ pets aboard this leg of Runway to Forever, Petfinder's 30th Anniversary flight program with Greater Good Charities. Two flights, over 100 pets, one bridge from overcrowded shelters to the adoption-ready communities where dogs like Gladys get their real shot at forever. Thank you, Petfinder, for 30 years of proving that relocation plus digital connection equals hope, and for giving Gladys her own way home. 🐾

  • At just 4 months old, Berkeley was found injured and alone on the street, her wounds consistent with being hit by a vehicle. She needed an amputation, but she's since made a full recovery and is ready to fly to her forever home. Because every pet deserves a direct flight home: today, Berkeley was one of 75+ pets that flew from California to the Pacific Northwest as part of Runway to Forever, Petfinder's 30th Anniversary campaign funding two rescue flights with Greater Good Charities to relocate over 100 pets out of high-intake shelters and into adoption-ready communities. Thank you, Petfinder, for 30 years of proving that relocation plus digital connection equals hope, and for giving Berkeley her own way home. 🐾

  • In Odesa, Olga and other dedicated women care for stray cats every day. Their kindness, as they brave the challenges of war, gives vulnerable animals a chance to service. Thanks to compassionate donors, caregivers like Olga can continue caring for stray cats in Odesa. As Martyna Maciejewska, Senior Manager of Field Operations for Greater Good Charities, notes, "Without outside support, many would simply be unable to continue caring for the pets and strays that depend on them."
