Improving Outcomes through Research-Based Innovations
About us
We provide onsite and distance-based training and support to service organizations, schools, and hospitals to optimize processes and outcomes for children and adolescents diagnosed with developmental disabilities who engage in severe problem behavior. Dr. Hanley formed FTF in early 2019 primarily to fulfill the demand for training in practical functional assessment (PFA) and skill-based treatment (SBT) procedures. The company aim is to provide highly effective training and reliable support to professionals attempting to adopt PFA/SBT processes in their practice and to organizations attempting to improve outcomes for the children and young adults they serve who engage in severe problem behavior. Severe Problem Behavior We are experts in assessing and treating severe problem behavior, and skilled in building capacity and confidence in others to do the same. Sleep Problems We build capacity in others to implement an efficient model of assessment and treatment of sleep problems within a three-step process. Stereotypy We are experts in designing effective teaching programs for humanely addressing stereotypy and building capacity in others to do the same. Eating Problems Our approach to assessing and treating eating problems is to provide a relaxed environment in which children are motivated to interact with and eventually eat new and nonpreferred foods. Balance We train organizations in the Balance Program, a home-based, parent- implemented, skill-based approach to preventing the development of severe problem behavior. Preschool Life Skills The Preschool Life Skills (PLS) program is a classroom-based approach to teaching critical social skills to preschoolers to prevent problem behavior from developing or reemerging.

Assent-based practices are gaining traction in ABA — but what happens when responsiveness leads to learners missing out on services? Our new on-demand course, Assent in Skill-Based Treatment: Recommendations and Common Pitfalls, addresses exactly that. Presenters Gregory Hanley, Ph.D., BCBA-D, Holly Gover, Ph.D., BCBA-D, and Kelsey Ruppel, Ph.D., BCBA-D walk through: ✔ How to distinguish assent withdrawals from other learner behaviors ✔ How to structure SBT sessions with assent in mind ✔ How to problem-solve after an assent withdrawal — and set learners up for future participation Designed for practitioners already familiar with SBT who want to implement assent-based practices with confidence and consistency. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/er3Paqh5

Big one for #UTICA26 The OG of HRE, Gregory Hanley, is bringing a fresh keynote to Utica this July: The Current State of Evidence for & Critical Features of a Compassionate Approach to Assessing and Treating Severe Problem Behavior. He’ll break down the evolution of PFA/SBT, what 12+ years of data are actually telling us, and what still needs to happen to get this work into the hands of families and frontline teams. But let’s make this even better. What do you want Hanley to answer? Where are you stuck? What’s not translating from research to practice? What are you seeing in schools, homes, or residential settings that the field isn’t fully addressing yet? Drop it in the comments. Let’s bring the real questions to Utica. There is something deeply moving about an approach to ABA that begins not with a program or a curriculum but with a question: what does this person love? FTF Behavioral Consulting have built a framework around listening, trust, and joy. The idea that a child needs to feel safe and understood before any learning can truly take place. It sounds obvious, yet it's still not the norm. It's hard to watch rigid, outdated practices persist in our field, knowing the harm they can cause. Our clients deserve trauma-informed, dignity-centered care. Not as an ideal but as a standard. Proud to be part of this journey as an Advanced Level 5 credentialed professional in PFA and SBT of Severe Problem Behavior. Still so much to learn. Thank you Dr. Theresa Fiani, Ph.D., BCBA-D, LBA-NYS
