About us
The Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) is a broad-based public-private alliance of industry, academia, and government stakeholders. It was established in late 2011 by a grant from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Institute for Food Safety and Health (IIT IFSH). Vision: Be an internationally recognized trusted source for training programs and outreach for the prevention-oriented standards of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). Mission: Assist the human and animal food industry and related entities in building food safety capacity through education, training and outreach with an emphasis on small-, and medium-sized businesses.

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Lynette Johnston to the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) Executive Advisory Board. Dr. Johnston is an Assistant Professor and Food Safety Extension Specialist at North Carolina State University, where she leads extension programs that help food processors strengthen their food safety systems to meet regulatory and third-party certification requirements. She is also a dedicated food safety educator, serving as a Trainer of Trainers and Lead Instructor for the FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food (PCHF) curriculum, and a Lead Instructor for the Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP), Juice HACCP, and Produce Safety Alliance curricula. Before joining NC State University, Dr. Johnston worked in the food industry and as a food microbiologist with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, bringing valuable applied and regulatory experience to her work. We look forward to the expertise and perspective she will bring to the FSPCA community as we continue advancing food safety education worldwide. Today, the FDA issued guidance answering stakeholder questions on implementing the Food Traceability Rule and announced a notice exempting certain cottage cheese products from the rule’s requirements. https://lnkd.in/ejVq8hdA The Agency also announced a series of stakeholder engagements, reflecting our continued commitment to ensuring industry partners have the information and tools needed to comply with the Food Traceability Rule and to strengthen food safety.

The Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH) - Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) is currently seeking to fill a vacancy on the FSPCA Executive Advisory Board (EAB). To maintain an EAB that is balanced across industry, academia, and government sectors and expertise (e.g., communication, regulatory, technical, international), applicants should possess the following: ✅ Subject Matter Expert in Food Safety ✅ Work experience in the academic community in the area of food safety (i.e. extension specialists, technical advice, training, etc.) ✅ Expertise in developing food safety-related curricula for adult learners ✅ Experience working with the food industry answering food safety questions and assisting with the development of food safety systems ✅ Expertise in providing training for food safety professionals.
