What most people don’t see is that this moment was nearly two years in the making. Last April, the internet’s favorite grandma/cook/host, @brunchwithbabs, chose Fish Fixe as one of her most-loved food brands for her appearance on The View’s View Your Deal segment. We worked with Babs to feature four of her go-to seafood items (the ones she truly keeps stocked in her freezer) and offered them to viewers at a special price. By the end of the day, we’d welcomed thousands of new customers…and our love for Babs had somehow grown even stronger. In another too good to be true moment, Babs just happened to be in Houston, TX (our hometown!) a week later for her Cookbook Tour. We literally shed tears and hugs as we met her in person. Two years of conversations, persistence, hope… and yes, a few (or more than a few) love letters to Babs. Small business owners know the drill — the highs are sky-high, the lows make you question everything, and somehow you keep showing up because you believe in what you're building. In small business, you never know which opportunity will be *the* opportunity. The right partner, the right exposure, the right champion at the right time can change the entire trajectory of your business. You just have to keep the faith long enough to meet those moments. Think you’re good? Awesome. Now go try and run a frozen food business. (Or fresh) It’s an industry defined by complexity: managing spoilage risk, strict expiration timelines, and the unique logistics challenges that come with temperature controlled products. Shipping is expensive and volatile, and with only a couple of viable carrier options, your flexibility is extremely limited. The infrastructure required, from commercial freezers to specialized fulfillment partners… it’s costly and restrictive. Add in state by state requirements for new product development, testing, approvals, and labeling, and the regulatory lift becomes significant. Want to manufacture your own food to open up margins and have more control over the product output and quality? Good luck 😂 Now you’re running two of the hardest businesses in the world at once. Even packaging becomes a science. Every ounce of dry ice, every square inch of box space, and every insulation choice directly affects cost, product safety, and customer experience. Running a frozen food brand means solving problems most other categories never have to consider. It’s difficult, operationally demanding, and capital intensive. However, for those who do it well, it’s one of the most rewarding and defensible models in CPG. Respect to everyone building in the cold chain. Keep rockin’ it!

Lights, Camera... Lunch! We were invited by our friends, Round Top Film Festival, to serve a seafood lunch during Farm Day. Between clay shooting, golf and fishing, guests enjoyed Tuna Poke Bowls, Salmon Sliders and Mahi Tacos. We arrived with coolers packed to the brim and left with just melted ice. Thank you Round Top Film Festival for letting us partake in such a special day!
