  • As dealmakers navigate the complexities of competition policy under the Trump administration, Josh Tzuker, Global Head of Competition at FGS Global, sat down with The Wall Street Journal to offer insight from our recent DC event featuring Andrew Ferguson, Gail Slater, and other Trump officials - "They gave an articulation that while they’re not anti-M&A, they believe that competition on the merits is important."   Curious about what this means for the future of dealmaking? • What will antitrust policy look like in the Trump 2.0 era? FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson and AAG in the DOJ antitrust division Gail Slater provided unparalleled insights at a recent panel hosted by FGS Global and The Capitol Forum. They discussed their plans to focus on Big Tech, implement a vigorous non-compete program and adopt a “no-BS” approach to remedies, among other priorities. • Earlier this week at The Merode Club in Brussels, we hosted a timely and engaging dinner event, “Defining a New Era of Transatlantic Relations.” Just five minutes before we began, President Trump announced a 90-day pause on the new tariffs—setting the stage for an even more dynamic and relevant discussion. We were honored to open the evening with remarks on “The State of Europe” by Karel Lannoo, CEO of the CEPS (Centre for European Policy Studies), followed by a rich and thoughtful conversation featuring our distinguished colleagues from FGS Global: • Richard Walters, Former Senior Advisor to the Republican National Commitee and Trump-Vance Campaign • Eva Christiansen, Former Strategic Advisor to German Chancellor Angela Merkel • Jan Peter Balkenende, Former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Together, we explored what lies ahead for transatlantic relations in the context of a second Trump administration, a renewed von der Leyen Commission, and the leadership of Chancellor Friedrich Merz as Germany reasserts its global role. A heartfelt thank you to all who joined us for this meaningful and timely exchange. To continue to the conversation and identify strategies to help your organization find opportunities in this challenging environment, please message Sebastian F. A. Here is what our experts had to say.

FGS Global and The Capitol Forum were thrilled to host an incredible event exploring the most pressing issues and priorities in antitrust and competition policy in the US and abroad.   Our 3 expert panels offered unparalleled insight into how regulators are approaching antitrust and what this means for businesses and families. Here are some top takeaways: - The US perspective: Gail Slater and Andrew Ferguson emphasized a continuation of the assertive antitrust and competition enforcement seen during the first Trump Administration. They noted that there is bipartisan concern over economic concentration. However, both enforcers offered more receptivity to appropriate remedies in M&A. - An international lens: Andreas Mundt and Roger Alford debated how to balance innovation and competition, explaining that they go hand in hand. They also noted that competition enforcers should not be seen as political bodies but instead arbiters of the law. - Enforcers roundtable: The final panel offered the perspectives of the leadership of the FTC competition bureau and the criminal and civil enforcement programs of the DOJ. They offered that antitrust enforcement is part of the Administration’s drive for efficiency and protecting workers and consumers. They highlighted their targeting of collusion and bid rigging in government contracts and focus on health care, tech, agriculture and transportation as areas of concern. Want to dive deeper into these insights?
