How should consumer protection evolve as AI changes the cyber threat landscape? Earlier this week, F-Secure welcomed a delegation from Taiwan led by Minister of Digital Affairs Yi-Jing Lin for a discussion on that question. Minister Lin shared perspectives on how Taiwan is tackling cyber threats at the network level and beyond. From F-Secure, we discussed how consumer protection is evolving as scams and other online threats become harder to recognize, and what it takes to build trust in an increasingly complex digital environment. During the same week, Minister Lin also joined a panel at Cyber Security Nordic 2026 in Helsinki on digital resilience, public-private cooperation, and practical responses to real-world cyber threats. Thank you to Minister Lin and the delegation for the open exchange. #CyberSecurity #DigitalTrust #AI #FSecure

Black Friday is four weeks away. Providers that launch a cyber security service before it arrives have a commercial window that won’t exist in January. Device sales peak in November. Black Friday puts new laptops, smartphones, and tablets into consumers’ hands, and every new device creates an opportunity to offer protection from day one. 84% of consumers experienced an online scam attempt last year. 80% expect their provider to help keep them safe from scams. It’s a point in the year when a major commercial moment and a clear consumer need for protection converge. What has stopped many providers from acting on that opportunity is the assumption that launching a cyber security service requires months of technical work. Self-service platforms have changed that. F-Secure Horizon covers the full service lifecycle — Promote, Activate, Grow, Support — without custom development at launch. Most partners are live in 3–5 business days. Providers that launch in October can capture the November opportunity. Those that wait until January have missed that important window. Trust is becoming a growth question for telcos, not just a security one. At Telecoms World Asia in Bangkok today, F-Secure Regional Director, APAC Anand Renukanand presented “Trust as a growth engine: How Asian telcos create value with security.” His focus was practical: how AI-driven scams are changing consumer expectations, why security matters increasingly in the relationship between service providers and their customers, and how holistic scam protection can support both customer trust and new revenue opportunities. Great to continue these conversations in person with partners and industry peers across the region. #TelecomsWorldAsia #CyberSecurity #Telecommunications #FSecure Telecoms World Asia

For almost half of AI users, “sounding right” is good enough. 47.3% say they don’t question an AI answer further when it sounds right. That's more than double any other behavior we surveyed. This matters because time and effort aren’t always what stops people from questioning AI. Often, the answer itself provides the stopping signal. Once a response sounds plausible enough, further scrutiny can feel unnecessary. And this behavior becomes more common among people who use AI across more kinds of tasks. 28.6% of people who keep AI to low-stakes tasks say they take answers at face value when they sound right. Among those who use AI for many kinds of tasks, that rises to 59.7%. How often people use AI matters too, but the difference associated with how widely they use it is much larger. The risk is that sounding right can become a substitute for establishing whether an answer is actually right. For digital service providers, this means the consumers engaging with AI across the widest range of tasks may also be less likely to scrutinize its answers. Providers shouldn’t assume customers will always recognize when an AI response needs questioning. Protection should help compensate for those moments when they don’t. F-Secure and QuTwo are taking the next step in their partnership by bringing advanced scam protection directly to consumer devices. Today, the AI models capable of advanced threat protection are generally too large to run on a phone. QuTwo will apply its quantum-inspired AI compression to F-Secure threat detection models, making them small enough to run directly on consumer devices. In recent tests on Finland’s LUMI supercomputer, QuTwo compressed models across seven model families by 90% or more while retaining 91–95% of their quality. Applied to consumer security, that kind of compression can bring advanced AI protection closer to the user, with analysis happening on-device and personal data staying on the phone. “By bringing advanced AI directly onto people’s devices, we can protect them instantly, wherever they are, while their personal data stays on their phone,” says Timo Laaksonen, President and CEO of F-Secure. One scam can wear a lot of different logos. In a new investigation, F-Secure Junior Researcher Jeremy Ong tracked a task-based job scam as the same playbook appeared under several different impersonated brands. The names and domains changed. The mechanics stayed familiar: an easy-money ad, a move into private messaging, a convincing fake portal, a small initial deposit, and eventually larger requests for money. Jeremy's research shows why understanding the structure of a scam matters. The branding can change much faster than the playbook behind it. A scam can look new and still run on an old playbook. When our Threat Intelligence team mapped more than 50 online scams for F-Secure Scam Encyclopedia, the same pattern kept appearing: the surface details change, but the underlying mechanics often don't. That makes it particularly relevant during Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The National Cybersecurity Alliance lists recognizing and reporting scams as one of the simple habits that can make life harder for cybercriminals. F-Secure Scam Encyclopedia approaches that from the victim's side. Each entry starts with what someone is led to believe is happening, then unpacks how the deception actually works. Not every subscriber needs the same level of protection. A one-size-fits-all offering limits your ability to differentiate on price and grow revenue. F-Secure Total Core is the right starting point for most providers. It covers device security, safe browsing, scam protection, and banking protection — the essentials that matter for a price-sensitive broadband subscriber or a standard mobile plan bundle. F-Secure Total Complete builds on that foundation with identity protection, a password manager, VPN, and privacy tools. It's the right offer for families managing multiple devices, remote workers handling sensitive data, and premium customers who want broader coverage across their digital life. The commercial logic is straightforward: a customer who starts on Core and moves to Complete generates more revenue without requiring a new acquisition. Offering both tiers from the outset — with a clear positioning for each — gives providers an entry point for price-sensitive segments and a premium path for those who want more. F-Secure Horizon lets partners manage both tiers, set pricing, and track subscriptions from a single platform. What happens when anti-spam protection catches legitimate users too? The New York Times Wirecutter spoke with F-Secure Principal Threat Intelligence Researcher Megan Squire about why iMessage users can sometimes be flagged as spammers, even when their intentions are harmless. Privacy-preserving services like iMessage make spam detection more complicated, forcing platforms to rely on behavioral signals and other techniques. As Megan explains, that can sometimes mean erring on the side of safety. Read the full article in The New York Times Wirecutter: https://lnkd.in/eNzQHNqY #CyberSecurity #OnlineSafety #FSecure #Spam
