EU's bridge to stronger regions. Fostering cohesion and growth through territorial cooperation in Europe and beyond

About us

Interreg, the European Union's instrument for facilitating cooperation among regions and countries within Europe and beyond, plays a vital role in advancing regional development, fostering cohesion, and mitigating economic disparities. Interreg programmes cover different territorial areas, organized under four strands: - European Cross-Border Cooperation - Transnational Cooperation - Interregional Cooperation - Outermost Regions’ Cooperation These Interreg programmes serve as engines for project partnerships aligned with the key objectives of the EU's cohesion policy for 2021-2027: • Promoting a more competitive and smarter Europe • Supporting a greener, low-carbon transition towards a net-zero carbon economy and a resilient Europe • Enhancing connectivity across Europe • Encouraging social inclusion and a more equitable Europe • Bringing Europe closer to its citizens Additionally, there are two specific Interreg objectives for the period 2021-2027: • Improving cooperation governance • Promoting a safer and more secure Europe

“Leaving should always be a free choice, never a necessity driven by a lack of opportunities”, by Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Raffaele Fitto. The EU "Right to Stay" strategy raises this important question: how do we ensure that people can build a future where they call home because they choose to stay, not because they have no alternative? Interreg cooperation programmes have already been testing solutions on the ground. Across Interreg, projects have been tackling some of the very challenges that drive people away from regions: 🔸 Creating opportunities for vulnerable young people through initiatives such as atWork4NEETs (Interreg Europe) 🔸 Helping regions better understand and respond to youth migration through projects like YOUMIG (Interreg Danube Region Programme) 🔸 Building skills and opportunities in regions facing demographic challenges through initiatives like MAC Skilling (Interreg MAC) These examples show that "the right to stay" is not only about demographics. It's about opportunities, services, skills, connections and quality of life. Interreg has long been turning territorial challenges into practical cooperation solutions. Now, as the EU shapes this strategy, there is a real opportunity to show the evidence already available across programmes. We know many more examples exist. 👉 Interreg programmes: do you have projects contributing to the "Right to Stay" agenda? Share your examples in the comments (or send them our way). We would love to help showcase how cooperation is already making a difference. #InterregIsSocial #AMoreSocialEurope #Interreg #RightToStay #EURegions

  • Small ideas can have the biggest cross-border impact 🌍🤝 Check out how Interreg Meuse-Rhine (NL-BE-DE) uses the Small Project Fund (SPF) to support smaller initiatives that bring people and organisations together across the NL–BE–DE border triangle, and help remove everyday cross-border obstacles. What the SPF supports: 🔹 Citizen-oriented “meeting & exchange” projects (Education Mobility) 🔹 Micro projects and Small projects that boost participation of people and civil society Themes you can work on include: 🎭 Culture, sports & tourism 🎓 Education & training 🌿 Nature, environment & climate 🩺 Health 🗳️ Citizen participation (+ circular economy & (social) inclusion) Funding is designed to stay accessible, with different project types and budgets (ERDF up to 70%). Because better cooperation governance isn’t only about big programmes — it’s also about making it easier for people to cooperate across borders. ✨ #AbetterInterregGovernance #Interreg

  • 🚧🤝 New ISO1 opportunity for cross-border programmes. The Interreg Governance Facility project, InterregGov, has launched its first call for programmes working under ISO1, A better cooperation governance, with a focus on cross-border obstacles and people-to-people cooperation. Want to know more? Join the informational webinar on 3 June, where InterregGov and the European Commission will present the call and answer questions. 📝 Registration for the webinar is open until 29 May. 👉 Learn more about the call and register for the webinar: https://lnkd.in/da7SKD7Q #AbetterInterregGovernance #Interreg
