Did you know that DAF account size is related to the slack a donor has in their DAF to respond to emergent needs? According to Give Me Some Slack: Donor Advised Fund Granting During Crises, account size was a clear predictor of giving. Even after controlling for previous grantmaking, DAFs with more assets granted more in 2020. The paper presents strong evidence that larger DAFs have significant resource slack and are most capable of responding to emergent causes. DAFs play a significant role in donors’ overall giving, as 48% of respondents directed over 75% of their charitable contributions through DAFs in the past three years, according to the National Survey of Donor Advised Fund Donors. This highlights the growing importance of DAFs in the philanthropic landscape and the need for nonprofits to understand how to effectively engage with donors who use DAFs.
