It's great to see the progress on building the X-65 for our Control of Revolutionary Aircraft with Novel Effectors (CRANE) program. The goal of CRANE is to design, build, and flight test a new X-plane that uses Active Flow Control (AFC) as a main feature. If we can show that AFC works for in-flight stability and control, it could open up more design options for future military and commercial uses. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eqVuSJsg
In mid-January, Aurora completed the X-65 fuselage at our manufacturing facility in West Virginia. The X-65 aircraft is part of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) program to demonstrate active flow control (AFC), a technology that could transform the future of aircraft design. AFC replaces traditional control mechanisms, like flaps and rudders, with jets of air to control the aircraft’s pitch, roll, and yaw. AFC is expected to improve aerodynamics and to reduce weight and mechanical complexity. Follow us as we progress toward first flight, currently planned for 2027. #manufacturing #YesWV
