The space sector is expanding fast, but we’re still describing it with a mission framework that doesn’t map to where value is being created. Launch. Satellites. Exploration. Useful categories. Terrible markets. They don’t explain demand. They don’t explain margins. And they definitely don’t explain why capital is flowing into certain segments and not others. If you want to understand where the real opportunity is emerging, you need a different lens: Space-Native Markets — segments where the end-user’s need depends on space-based capabilities. This is where the economic gravity is forming. A few of the markets that actually show demand pull and defensible value: • Commercial and defense intelligence • Secure global communications • Earth observation • Precision positioning and timing • Emerging deterrence and defense markets And here’s the key: Not everything that touches space is investable as space. If every GPS-enabled company is “space,” then everything is space — which is meaningless for evaluating opportunity. The challenge isn’t finding “space companies.” It’s identifying the markets where space is the core value driver, not an incidental dependency. I break down this framework in more detail in the link in the comments. Feedback from investors and operators would be especially valuable. #SpaceEconomy #SpaceTech #DualUse #FrontierTech #DefenseTech #VentureCapital #Strategy #Geospatial
