AI risk isn’t mystical, it’s familiar. The real threat is blind trust. At CSA’s AI Summit 2026, Samuel Romanov, Director at Cornerstone Technology Solutions, reframes modern AI risk as amplified versions of classic attack patterns—from prompt injection to “slopsquatting” in AI-generated code. Through two real-world scenarios, he reveals how shadow AI, hallucinated dependencies, and weak governance can scale enterprise risk—and how automated agents, data provenance, and behavioral monitoring restore control. As AI systems grow more powerful and autonomous, understanding what they can do, and the risks that come with them, is critical. Developed by CSA’s AI Safety Initiative, the Capabilities-Based Risk Assessment (CBRA) framework offers a structured, scalable approach to assessing AI risk based on system capabilities, autonomy, and impact. Mapped directly to the AI Controls Matrix (AICM), CBRA helps organizations apply the right level of oversight—from lightweight safeguards to full-scale governance. When cyber attacks on the U.S. government spiked during the federal shutdown, agencies that had adopted Security as a Service (SECaaS) solutions to supplement their in-house capabilities had reason to be thankful: furloughs wouldn’t affect their ability to ward off threats. While SECaaS certainly isn’t new, the shutdown combined with recent government downsizing has put it on the radar for agencies that may be looking to do more with less. With SECaaS, historically manual tasks such as real-time monitoring to detect and respond to security threats suddenly become much more manageable.
