The City of Atlanta remains a transportation hub, not just for the country but also for the world: Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is one of the nations busiest in daily passenger flights. In the past two decades Atlanta has experienced unprecedented growth -- the official city population remains steady, at about 420,000, but the metro population has grown in the past decade by nearly 40%, from 2.9 million to 4.1 million people. A good measure of this growth is the ever-changing downtown skyline, along with skyscrapers constructed in the Midtown, Buckhead, and outer perimeter (fringing I-285) business districts.

This past Monday, we hosted our first ever City of Atlanta Employee Self Defense Class, creating a space for employees to gain practical skills and build confidence in protecting themselves in real world situations. Led by members of the Mayor’s Executive Protection team, Danny Padron and Delano Rodrigues, the session provided hands on instruction rooted in years of experience in self defense and martial arts. Their expertise, presence, and ability to connect made this class both engaging and meaningful for everyone involved. It was inspiring to see employees step outside of their comfort zones, learn new skills, and invest in their personal safety and well being. A big thank you to our instructors, Sara Redd, MBA, Scheduling and Advance Manager Executive Office and everyone who participated in making this first class a success. Looking forward to continuing to create opportunities that empower and support our workforce.
