Last week, we received word that the Department of Justice had cut $7 million of our federal funding. These cuts will not stop us. To continue to grow justice nationwide, we need steady, reliable supporters who understand that justice outlives any single administration or political moment. Please join us by supporting our Seeds of Justice campaign. Every donation plants a seed of justice that will grow for generations to come. 🌱 https://lnkd.in/e7esjHSr

The NYU Furman Center is excited to launch the 2025 Housing Justice Peer Network, a collaboration between the Housing Solutions Lab and the Center for Justice Innovation. Leaders of eight communities have been selected to explore solutions that improve access to housing for justice-involved people. With support of RWJF and the Schusterman Family Philanthropies, the Network will bring together housing and criminal justice leaders from Dane County, WI; Montgomery County, OH; Kansas City, MO; Memphis, TN; Oakland, CA; Pittsburgh, PA; Prince George’s County, MD; and Toledo, OH. Participants will receive technical assistance, policy guidance, and peer learning opportunities to achieve their local housing objectives. Martha M. Galvez, Executive Director of the NYU Furman Center’s Housing Solutions Lab shared that “The Network’s goals are to foster the peer learning, intentional collaboration, and individualized planning needed to design and implement innovative policies. We also aim to foster the lasting relationships that jurisdictions need to tackle these interconnected challenges.” Learn more about the 2025 Housing Justice Peer Network here: https://lnkd.in/eG_kzq9H

"Who run the world? Survivors!" 💜 Chanting words of love and solidarity, Brooklyn and Manhattan gathered together to march for Denim Day yesterday, which rallies against sexual assault and violence across the world. Marching with our RISE Project team, Kory Longsworth explained the significance of demonstrations like Denim Day: "So many of your brothers, sisters, grandmothers, grandfathers...the person next to you on the train could be a survivor. You are not alone. There are resources, there are people, there's a community out here to support you." Survivors and allies wore decorative denim to speak out while crossing the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan, then holding space for speakers like Office of the Manhattan Borough President, Mark Levine Mark D. Levine and Farah Louis live music and dance performances, and a resource fair all in Foley Square. A powerful and beautiful day to advocate for #commUNITYsafety!

Did you know that more than a third of domestic violence survivors are homeless at some point in their lives? The lack of affordable housing often gives survivors nowhere else to go even when they feel unsafe at home, effectively forcing them to choose between housing and safety from violence. Our RISE team, which supports community-led responses to intimate partner violence and gun violence, sees the importance of housing in their work every day. Much of the time, they’re responding to gaps left by systems that struggle to keep pace with the urgent needs for safety and housing felt by both survivors and their partners. In one case, the team brought a doorstop to someone who was told to wait several days for a lock replacement while they feared for their safety. On another occasion, they covered the costs of moving out for someone who was causing harm so that their partner could be safe at home. Find out more about how we can address the intersection of intimate partner violence and housing. ⤵️ 💜 https://lnkd.in/eqv7cFnw

I was blessed to work at the Center in my first job out of college and blessed to return to serve today as the CEO. Over the last 30 years, I have seen firsthand how our dedicated staff have planted and grown the seeds of justice through alternatives to incarceration, connecting clients to housing, mental health services and other supports, and working side by side with communities to create economic opportunity and build safe, vital neighborhoods. Despite the unprecedented loss of federal funding that we and other public-safety organizations are facing, we will continue to plant the seeds of justice—and I invite everyone who believes in justice, civil society, and vital public safety infrastructure to join us. Will you help us plant the seeds of justice?
