I’m pleased to share my guest post on Technical.ly published today for #MLK Day, on the role that #HBCUs play in fueling economic mobility and regional partnerships. In the essay, I explore how historically Black colleges and universities like North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University serve as engines of economic mobility and regional opportunity through their North Carolina A&T STEPS4GROWTH program. Dr. King’s focus toward the end of his life on poverty and structural opportunity offers a timely lens for this work. I consider how, in a rapidly changing economy, ensuring that institutions are equipped to connect students to workforce pathways must be part of honoring that legacy. Just finished reading “How Place-Based Partnerships Are Transforming Rural Schools” from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and it deeply resonated with our team. We highly recommend it. Our founder has had the privilege of supporting education and community initiatives in rural areas across the South and Southwest. The article’s message that place, partnership, and possibility can drive lasting change reflects so much of what we've witnessed firsthand. Real transformation happens when communities come together to reimagine opportunity right where students live and learn.
