  • Meet Shelby, Control Systems Engineer at Caterpillar 👋  From day one, Shelby has embraced every opportunity to learn, grow and solve real-world problems. As a recent graduate of Caterpillar’s Engineering Rotational Development Program, she has worked across several teams to gain hands-on experience with diagnostics, testing and the systems that power our machines around the world. “My experience in the Caterpillar ERD program gave me a real understanding of the technical work and challenges the teams I now partner with face every day. Seeing their processes up close helped me understand what they need, why certain constraints exist, and how my work fits into theirs. Moving into a variety of new roles through this program pushed me to learn fast, adapt quickly, and think through problems from different angles. Those experiences still shape how I approach my job today—they gave me the confidence and perspective to solve issues more effectively across teams.” - Shelby In her current role, Shelby develops and refines embedded control system features for Caterpillar engines, helping translate complex performance requirements into reliable, high‑quality software. Her work includes defining system requirements, designing control algorithms using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, and ensuring that each feature meets strict performance and durability expectations through model, software, hardware, and on‑engine testing. Shelby also analyzes engine sensor data and system behavior to optimize control strategies and support ongoing updates that enhance engine efficiency and responsiveness. Her technical expertise helps ensure Caterpillar engines operate at their best across diverse applications. That’s real engineering impact: making Caterpillar engines smarter, more efficient and more reliable through control system development, ultimately supporting how customers experience Caterpillar products in the real world. Beyond the technical work, Shelby highlights the people who make Caterpillar special: mentors, managers and teammates who invest in early-career engineers and encourage continuous learning. Now, she’s excited to continue her journey with #TeamCaterpillar and build on everything she’s learned so far, contributing to meaningful work while growing her career. • Meet Mariah P., once a #TeamCaterpillar intern and now an Accounting Manager whose bold, innovative mindset has transformed financial operations at Caterpillar. From automating tedious processes to building dashboards that deliver insights days faster, Mariah proves that growth happens when you challenge the norm. Her advice for anyone wanting to build an innovative mindset: ✔️ Question the “usual” way of doing things. ✔️ Automate or eliminate tasks that drain time. ✔️ Learn from colleagues. Their projects can spark your next idea. ✔️ Collaborate across teams to expand your perspective. “Innovation is about challenging the norm and saying, ‘I think there’s a better way – let’s try it.’ If I fail, I fail. We still have the original process as a backup. But if it works, we’ve gained something better, faster or more impactful. It’s about having the courage to push boundaries and rethink your traditional day-to-day.” – Mariah P. 👉 Want to build a career where your ideas can move an entire industry forward? “Good leadership means showing vulnerability and welcoming questions. This openness doesn't undermine your ability to execute strategy, it enhances it. It creates an environment where people feel free to be themselves. That’s where advocacy begins – acknowledging our different perspectives and creating a culture where everyone feels comfortable contributing so the best decisions can be made.” -Alex B., Business Manager Meet Alex 👋 After nearly a decade with #TeamCaterpillar in a variety of finance roles, Alex is currently responsible for cost governance and standardizing reporting across ten global sites for Caterpillar’s Building Construction Products Division.
