BEGA’25 was a celebration of excellence and meaningful impact — highlighting individuals and organisations whose contributions are reshaping governance in thoughtful and inclusive ways. It was a reminder of how powerful progress can be when people and institutions commit to representation, fairness, and high standards. As we look ahead, BEGA’26 will continue this momentum, strengthening the work, the stories, and the progress that define Black excellence in governance. #BEGA26 #ComingSoon #Blackexcellence #Corporategovernance #Diversityandinclusion #Goodgovernance

“It’s not enough to celebrate the individuals who break through — we must change the systems that make breaking through necessary.” — Alexander Walsh A reminder that true progress goes beyond applauding those who manage to rise despite the barriers. It calls us to rethink the structures that have long dictated who gets seen, heard, and recognised. When we build environments just as Black Excellence in Governance Awards (UK), where excellence is supported rather than isolated, where opportunity is embedded rather than exceptional, we move toward a future where representation isn’t symbolic, it’s standard. And that’s the kind of infrastructure that transforms generations, not just moments. “Authentic allyship is about understanding people’s stories and supporting them through it.” — Henry VV Hughes DLY, Winner of the Allyship in Governance Award at the Black Excellence in Governance Awards (BEGA) 2025. In his inspiring message, Henry highlighted the importance of recognition, diversity, and genuine connection in shaping the future of corporate governance. His words remind us that allyship extends beyond awareness — it’s about listening, learning, and standing in solidarity with others to drive meaningful change.

Kako Mavalla, ACG, LLM, shares WHY he convened the Black Excellence in Governance Awards: coming from Nigeria, he grew up surrounded by stories of the resilience of people who found a way when there seemed to be no way. That same spirit has guided him through every boardroom he’s entered across the world. Being Black in governance spaces sometimes meant being the first or the only one, but it’s in those moments that excellence shines brightest, opening doors for others. That, to him, is the true spirit of Governance Across Borders.
