Why ADA Compliance Should Be on Every University Leader’s Radar ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance is not just a checkbox in online education — it’s a legal, ethical, and educational imperative. Yet many universities and colleges continue to overlook or under-resource this critical area. The consequences can be profound: from legal liability and public embarrassment to student disengagement and barriers to learning for students with disabilities. As higher education institutions expand their online offerings, ADA compliance must be at the forefront — not an afterthought. At Babb Education, we’ve seen hundreds of courses, syllabi, and LMS shells across institutions. We know what’s getting missed, what’s done well, and where cleanup is desperately needed. Stop Policing AI: 7 Creative Ways to Design Authentic, Cheat-Resistant Assignments I recently received an email from an academic leader that was an absolute breath of fresh air. They explicitly told their faculty that they do not expect them to be the AI police. https://lnkd.in/gxmucidk

https://lnkd.in/g2SXbF9W The "Ideal Student" is Dead: Designing Online Education for the Reality of 2026 For decades, higher education has been built on a structural myth known as the "Ideal Student." This figure is typically 18 to 22 years old, lives on or off campus, and views their degree as their primary full-time responsibility.

How to Build Structurally Sound Online Courses (That Don't Fall Apart After Launch) Some courses look great at launch — and then collapse under real student pressure. Navigation breaks down. Faculty struggle to interpret what's expected. By Dani Babb, PhD https://lnkd.in/gHafjDcQ

Faculty Aren’t Leaving Higher Ed—They’re Leaving You. A Hard Look at What Institutions Can Fix Right Now By Dani Babb, PhD For more than 25 years, I've helped faculty find online teaching roles — long before "remote work" was a buzzword and well before institutions realized how much adjunct labor keeps their classrooms running. Through Faculty Job Tools, I've witnessed something that has grown impossible to ignore: Faculty are leaving their institutions — or preparing to — and they're telling me exactly why as they search for other work. I want to preface sharing this article with a tremendous story of leadership. Over the weekend, I inquired with a school about additional work that does not have seminars and explained my specific family reason and dynamic. Rather than getting pushback, the leader is actively looking for additional opportunities that will leverage my expertise, help with family obligations without the synchronous component, while I still maintain my synchronous workload. This is leadership. You know who you are (I hope you read this) and you are appreciated. Now onto the rest of the story… because there’s a lot more to it than just seminars for faculty. https://lnkd.in/grx8ggeP

Outdated Online Course Content Is Costing You More Than You Think Colleges and universities often delay course refreshes thinking that if content is technically accurate and the course still “runs,” there’s no urgency to update. Read more.. https://lnkd.in/giPj73yH

ADA Compliance in Online Courses: What’s Missing and What We Can Do About It Even well-designed online courses can fall short of full ADA compliance. It’s not just about captions or alt text. Common issues include: • Inaccessible PDFs and course materials • Non-descriptive hyperlinks (think “click here”) • Color contrast problems that exclude low-vision students • Lack of keyboard navigation or screen reader testing • Videos without transcripts • Inaccessible embedded content in LMSs like Canvas or Blackboard • Auto-timed quizzes with no alternate options And here’s the kicker: many of these issues aren’t caught until after students are already in the course—or worse, after a formal complaint. That’s where we come in. At Babb Education, we work alongside your existing instructional design team to review your courses for ADA risks, suggest and implement fixes, and leave your faculty and students with accessible, polished content. Whether it’s a full audit, minor adjustments, or last-minute triage when accessibility flags are raised, we act as your cleanup crew—with zero disruption to your workflows. 📌 Tip for leaders: Don’t wait for a complaint to check your compliance. Proactive ADA alignment can prevent legal risks, increase retention, and expand access for all learners. Www.babbeducation.com A Dani Babb Creation :)
