A Hard Look at What Institutions Can Fix Right Now By Dani Babb, PhD For more than 25 years, I've helped faculty find online teaching roles — long before "remote work" was a buzzword and well before institutions realized how much adjunct labor keeps their classrooms running. Through Faculty Job Tools, I've witnessed something that has grown impossible to ignore: Faculty are leaving their institutions — or preparing to — and they're telling me exactly why as they search for other work. I want to preface sharing this article with a tremendous story of leadership. Over the weekend, I inquired with a school about additional work that does not have seminars and explained my specific family reason and dynamic. Rather than getting pushback, the leader is actively looking for additional opportunities that will leverage my expertise, help with family obligations without the synchronous component, while I still maintain my synchronous workload.
