The violence at the hands of ICE and the U.S. government’s neglect of the rule of law in Minnesota and beyond is unacceptable. As a country, we face a defining choice about the kind of nation we want to be and the values that will guide us. B Lab and the B Corp community exist because we expect more from our economy – that it should function for the benefit of all stakeholders – grounded in transparency and accountability. Right now, we must demand the same from our government. We must demand the care, respect, and empathy that every human being deserves, regardless of identity or background, in our workplaces, communities, and, especially, from the public institutions that shape our lives. Businesses cannot be expected to do better in a system that does not reliably protect rights, enforce laws consistently, or uphold care and accountability for everyone. Our standards call on companies to lead on policy change, work collectively, and use their influence to help shape an economy that works for all people. That is why we invite all U.S. businesses to join B Lab in signing a letter, led by American Sustainable Business Network, to the Administration and Congress in defense of the Constitution, the rule of law, and an economy that only works when people are free. We also know that businesses might navigate tense situations on the ground, that's why we're hosting a How Companies Can Prepare & Respond to Immigration Enforcement webinar for employees on Thursday, February 12. The more action we take together, the greater the impact we will have as a business community. We draw inspiration from the resolve, courage, and care being shown in Minnesota and echoed by communities around the world.
