  • Full-circle moment: the intern who cursed caxlsx just open-sourced the fix. Chamod Gamage turned this pain point into a product which is now powering how we build financial statements at AngelList. You can explore the open-source repo below. It's elegant, fast, and open for anyone to use.

Recently I gave a talk at SF Ruby about a library we built (and recently open-sourced!) at AngelList called Zaxcel. Why'd we build it? Excel is the lingua franca of finance, but most programmatic Excel generation libraries force you to think in coordinates and formula strings. We took a different approach: model the workbook as a directed graph where data flows through named objects. Let the library handle coordinate resolution and formula composition. The result is a DSL that actually makes sense: you write formulas as Ruby expressions, reference things by name, and the type checker catches mistakes at compile time. It's revolutionized how we build financial statements. What used to take weeks now takes hours (and with AI agents - only minutes!), empowering thousands of workbook deliveries a quarter. Read how we went from nightmare refactors to 100x productivity: https://lnkd.in/es2aTttR Open-sourced repo (you can use it today!): https://lnkd.in/ecKRwcaW

Our Principal Engineer, Alexander Stathis, went on the On Rails podcast to talk about how we keep a big Rails monolith running smoothly at AngelList. If you’re curious how Rails still scales in 2025, this one’s a great listen. We’ve seen real benefits from investing early in tools like Sorbet and Packwerk , they’ve helped us keep a large, evolving monolith from turning into a “ball of mud.” We also avoid “Rails magic” and lean on explicit, procedural code. It’s made onboarding and debugging a lot easier, and keeps the system understandable as it grows. If you’re into large-scale Rails and care about keeping your monolith fast and maintainable, this one’s worth your time. Robby Russell https://lnkd.in/g8wgAWze

We built an AI agent to help our Customer Relations team better serve GPs and LPs. Now, it assists with 65% of all requests. The system was built entirely in-house, with: - Streaming infrastructure implemented in Go - Custom OpenSearch indices for retrieval - Direct integrations with Slack and Front The agent indexes and retrieves information from email, Slack, legal documents, Notion, and our CRM, providing verified, source-linked answers in real time. We didn’t optimize for evals. We optimized for adoption and user feedback. https://lnkd.in/gyrgEZ4u

Fundraising momentum. Deal flow. LP confidence. All can be accelerated by the way you position your firm. Yet, it can feel overwhelming for GPs to know how to strategically leverage the media to amplify their narrative. This Thursday, join Emilie Gerber (CEO of Six Eastern) as she reveals the PR playbook top funds use to secure coverage that drives results, walks through a case study in real-time, and takes questions from the audience for a live Q&A. Reserve your spot and submit your questions. https://lnkd.in/gUixmaUN

🎙️ LISTEN: Slice Season 3 launches today and I'm honored to be the first guest discussing how solo GPs build world-class systems at scale 🌍 While building Sarah Smith Fund, I've been obsessed with the question: 💡 "Can you combine solo GP conviction with AI-native operations from day one to create a compounding flywheel that benefit LPs, founders, and co-investors simultaneously?" In this conversation with the charismatic fabri cara, we dive deep into three areas that have become core to our approach: 🌲 Building a focused Stanford University talent network - Our annual GSB Fellowship program goes far beyond traditional scouting, creating a "network of networks" that compounds value for founders, LPs, and co-investors 🙌🏽 💎 Creating first class LP experiences - Our first AGM was designed with extreme intention down to the minute and the breakfast burritos 🌯 ⚡ Leveraging AI systems strategically - We've built custom frameworks that help us "do 10x more for founders in 1/10th the time" while keeping human judgment at the center I love Slice's thesis on our approach: it's not about scaling bigger, but scaling better - more intentional, more impactful. 👉🏽 For fellow LPs: This episode offers a window into how emerging managers are rethinking fund operations in 2025. 👉🏽 For founders: You'll hear how we're using systems to get to conviction faster and support portfolio companies more effectively. 👉🏽 For co-investors: The discussion on our 100-point AI screening system might change how you think about deal flow prioritization. 👉🏽 For GSB students: If you are an MBA1, hear more about the unique fellowship. Applications open in winter quarter for summer 2026. 📻 Listen wherever you get your podcasts or at: https://lnkd.in/g78vGC3x 🙏🏽 Thank you to the Slice team for the thoughtful conversation and for highlighting managers who are rewriting the playbook! #VentureCapital #EmergingManagers #SoloGP #LimitedPartners #StartupEcosystem #AI

Sarah Smith (Sarah Smith Fund) has cracked the code on three things most solo GPs struggle with: + World Class Fellowship Program - $50K for each fellow to invest in real startups + AGMs - "Over half of my fund came in that last four weeks after the AGM" + AI frameworks that support her decision making as a solo GP "I think we can do 10 times more for our founders in a tenth of the time" The best solo GPs build systems that let them focus on what only they can do. Welcome Back to Season 3 of Slice. Full episode below 👇 https://lnkd.in/g78vGC3x

Now hiring Product Counsel to join Erik Syvertsen and his team. This isn't your typical back-office legal role. You'll partner directly with product and engineering teams to build legal infrastructure for private markets. In this role you'll work on fund formation and investor onboarding, spearhead legal innovation for internal teams and customers, and help shape regulatory frameworks for tomorrow's venture economy.
