The South Eastern Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® joins the nation in mourning the passing of Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., a towering figure whose life embodied the power of principled advocacy and unwavering commitment to justice. Rev. Jackson's legacy represents more than a single lifetime of achievement; it is a testament to sustained leadership that bridged generations and movements. From his formative years alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to his decades-long work in voter mobilization, economic empowerment, and coalition-building, he demonstrated that the pursuit of equity requires both moral conviction and strategic action. Throughout his journey, Rev. Jackson championed many of the same priorities that have anchored Alpha Kappa Alpha's mission for over a century: educational access, health equity, economic opportunity, and civic participation. His voice echoed in the same spaces where sorors have led, in classrooms and boardrooms, at legislative tables and grassroots organizing efforts, reinforcing a shared commitment to community uplift and systemic transformation. What distinguished Rev. Jackson's leadership was his understanding that progress is collective work. He knew that lasting change demands scholarship, strategy, and sustained investment in communities; principles that have long guided our Sorority's service and advocacy. His ability to convene diverse voices, inspire civic responsibility, and challenge injustice with both faith and courage reflects the kind of leadership that continues to shape service-driven institutions committed to meaningful impact. The South Eastern Region extends heartfelt condolences to Rev. Jackson's family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His life's work reminds us that the call to justice transcends any single era and that it continues through each of us who commit to service, sisterhood, and the vision of a more equitable world. Rest in power, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. Your legacy endures. #Justice #ServiceToAllManKind #AKA1908 #AKASouthEastern Tracey Morant Adams, Ph.D.

From the Capitol halls to the heart of our communities. Under the leadership of South Eastern Regional Director Tracey Morant Adams, Ph.D. Morant Adams, chapters, leaders, and community advocates from across Mississippi gathered for AKA Day at the Capitol. United in advocacy and service, we showed up not just to observe the process but to actively engage it, lifting our voices for justice, equity, and the well-being of our communities. It would be impossible to thank each and every sister, chapter, and leader who contributed to the impact of our collective action. We are grateful for the service and stewardship that helped make this convening possible. #AKADayAtTheCapitol #AKASouthEastern #AdvocateForJustice #PowerOfUs #AKA1908 Mississippi Office-Capital

Vision. Unity. Stewardship. This month, we honor the life of Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, the visionary who, in 1908, helped establish Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® at Howard University. She imagined something bold and beautiful, a sisterhood rooted in scholarship, culture, and service. And then she stayed to nurture it. From breaking barriers in education to serving her community and guiding Alpha Kappa Alpha’s finances for more than two decades, her leadership was steady, principled, and deeply committed. Because of her, what began as a vision became a legacy. Her example gently reminds us to care for what we build and to leave it stronger than we found it. Ethel Hedgeman Lyle reminds us that vision ignites the future, unity sustains it, and stewardship ensures that what we build will endure. Thank you, Debra Nelson, for the beautiful voice and storytelling! #AKA1908 #Founders #AKASouthEastern #AKANAR #BlackHistory

Rooted in service. Growing with purpose. In honor of our South Eastern Regional Director, Tracey Morant Adams, Ph.D. Morant Adams, 27 trees were planted at Ensley Park as a lasting tribute to her leadership. Each tree stands as a symbol of growth, impact, and the responsibility we carry to preserve and build the future. We extend our sincere appreciation to our partners and sponsors, the City of Birmingham Park and Recreation Board and Cool Green Trees, whose collaboration made this possible. We are also grateful to the Cluster VII chapter members who helped support our environment! #akasoutheastern #aka1908 #environment #powerofus

In Perpetuity. Before legacy could be protected, it had to be secured. Before impact could be expanded, it had to be sustained. Beginning in 1913, Alpha Kappa Alpha made a defining choice, ensuring that its mission, values, and sisterhood would endure beyond a moment, beyond a generation. Through formal structure and intentional growth, the sorority evolved from vision into institution, prepared to lead, serve, and shape communities for decades to come. This era marks the turning point—where ideals became infrastructure and purpose was preserved for the future. Today, we honor Nellie M. Quander and the decision that ensured Alpha Kappa Alpha would live, lead, and serve in perpetuity, setting a course for the global legacy that continues to unfold. 🩷💚 #aka1908 #akasoutheastern #bycultureandbymerit #incorporationday Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Tracey Morant Adams, Ph.D. Charletta Wilson Jacks

The Foundation. Before there was a movement, there was intention. Before there was impact, there was courage. This is where it began—rooted in scholarship, service, sisterhood, and a bold belief in what was possible. Every chapter written since stands on the vision, sacrifice, and resolve of those who laid the groundwork. Today, we honor the foundation—not just as history, but as the living force that continues to shape who we are and where we’re going. 🩷💚 #aka1908 #akasoutheastern #bycultureandbymerit #foundersday Tracey Morant Adams, Ph.D. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated
