  • AI is changing the way we work in ABA and it comes with risks. Expert clinicians may see their skills narrow if they rely too much on AI. Awareness and careful use help maintain high-level expertise. Ideally, leaders should consider how AI affects professional growth and judgment, and allow those considerations to shaper internal policy. 7 signs your handbook is actually helping your team: 1. Staff check it before asking the same questions repeatedly 2. New hires onboard faster because expectations are clear 3. Decisions stay consistent across different managers 4. Conflicts get resolved by pointing to policy, not personality 5. You spend less time repeating yourself 6. Team members feel confident they’re doing things right 7. Fairness becomes visible, not assumed Handbooks aren’t about control. They’re about relief. When expectations live in conversations, they change depending on who’s speaking. That creates confusion for staff and stress for leaders. Clarity isn’t rigid. It’s stabilizing. If you’re answering the same questions repeatedly, clarity may belong on paper. If this resonated, share it with another practice owner who might need to hear it. You don’t have a hiring problem. You have a clarity problem. Most ABA owners think they’re bad at picking people. Wrong. You’re bad at telling them what success looks like. When expectations shift every week, your team can’t win. They’re guessing. And you’re disappointed. Consistent expectations create consistent staff. Here’s the clarity framework: → Define the role in writing before you post the job. → List three non-negotiables and three dealbreakers. → Create a 30-day roadmap that shows what good looks like. → Share it in the interview so they can self-select out. → Use it in onboarding so there’s no confusion. → Reference it in every check-in for the first 90 days. When the path is clear, performance follows. Your team isn’t failing you. Your system is. Fix the system. Keep the people. Need a handbook that does this for you? Let’s build it. Stephen S.

10 signs pressure is overtaking ethics in your practice: 1. Staff skip steps to meet deadlines 2. Documentation happens after the fact instead of in real time 3. “Just this once” becomes a pattern 4. Decisions prioritize speed over accuracy 5. Compliance feels like a checklist, not a standard 6. Corner-cutting gets quietly rewarded 7. People are afraid to raise concerns 8. Growth goals override capacity limits 9. Burnout is treated as normal 10. Questions get dismissed because there’s no time Pressure doesn’t mean you’ve lost your values. It means your systems need to be strong enough to protect them. If this resonated, share it with another practice owner who might need to hear it. Follow me for more on building sustainable, ethical ABA practices. Stephen S.
