Dylan and Max cover a mix of operational and career topics that will resonate with professional pilots across airline and business aviation. The discussion ranges from recent accident headlines and airport security delays to runway-speed technique, training tools, and the realities of aircraft maintenance. The Mailbag also brings a strong listener push for more storytelling episodes, while Flight Advice focuses on a career decision many pilots will appreciate: whether commuting pain is worth preserving long-term seniority. A good episode for anyone thinking seriously about quality of life, career progression, and the tradeoffs that define this profession. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/gF5PdWHA Timothy P. If you have a few moments, can you complete this survey?
I’m sharing an important survey from the NBAA Safety Committee for anyone in the pilot and aviation safety community. 👉 https://lnkd.in/ggqDcPUN The goal is to better understand why pilots don’t always respond to TAWS alerts as quickly as expected. There are growing indications that: Crews may believe they have more time than they actually do Some alerts may not be perceived as legitimate Training often covers system integration—but not always the underlying logic behind TAWS protections Additionally, frustration with nuisance or unnecessary alerts may be influencing real-world responses. Industry leaders are actively trying to identify where and why these alerts are occurring. For example, reports have highlighted TAWS activations during extended visual approaches into airports like Henderson Executive (HND). This is a valuable opportunity to contribute to improving training, system design, and ultimately safety. If you’re a pilot or involved in flight operations, I strongly encourage you to take a few minutes to complete the survey and share your experience. Your input matters.

This week we discuss lessons from the recent Challenger 650 accident in Bangor, including winter operations, holdover times, and the added operational pressure that can exist in business aviation. We also cover AI-enabled training tools, pilot recalls at Spirit, and several listener mailbag topics ranging from union negotiations to helicopter career paths. In Flight Advice, we tackle a thoughtful mid-career question: for an experienced pilot in his late 40s, is a fractional operator now a better quality-of-life choice than starting over at an airline? Good discussion for anyone thinking about career durability, lifestyle, and second-act planning. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/gF5PdWHA Timothy P.
