Prioritize quick fixes, starting with the most critical components like mics and speakers. If the issue persists, I consult my backup plan, which includes spare cables, mics, and even a secondary audio setup if available. Communicate discreetly with the team and, if needed, briefly address the audience to manage expectations. Staying organized and prepared with backup equipment and a clear troubleshooting plan ensures minimal disruption to the performance.

I take a quick look around to see if it's a local power outage or transformer or power pole issue. If the venue's lights are flickering, there may be little you can do. I've watched soundmen pull out their hair searching for gremlins,when it's a generator running out of fuel and sputtering out back. Smaller and older venues may have outdated power and faulty wiring. Many old West grange halls have shared power between stage and kitchens. Issues; including HF interference, could be a blender being activated nearby. This is a venue/host relationship issue that you will need to make them aware of, and discuss prior to event. After that, knowing your equipment is key. Connectors, plugs, fuses, and even software can all shoot you in the foot.

This means anything with a battery such as mics and earpieces, communication headphones, etc. these will go at any time. Otherwise run enough cables to back up the user cable.
