How do you maintain professional boundaries in your coaching practice?

1. From the outset, I establish a structured framework for our sessions—outlining availability, response times, and what’s appropriate outside of sessions. 2. As coaches, we are empathetic by nature, but we are not infinite wells of energy. I consciously protect my capacity by keeping work within defined hours. 3. Coaching is about empowering clients to find their own solutions. When clients become overly reliant, I gently redirect them toward self-reliance by providing tools, strategies, and reflection rather than direct answers. 4. Saying “no” doesn’t have to mean rejecting their need. Convey with empathy.

Pre define scope of work with time lines & time allocation for each client, additional assignments can come at an additional cost, be very clear in resource allocation as well.

It is helpful in the very beginning to explain what coaching is and what is not, to hear the expectations and to present yours. Having a detailed coaching agreement in which the way of communication between the sessions is discussed is also a must. At the same time, understanding the client's need to have an accountability partner may inspire you to think about additional services.

The advantage of being a Life coach is that you have the skill and life experience to handle most personality types and situations. The choice remains yours. Some clients are just not a good fit. I will always refer a client to another coach if I feel we are not a good fit. Because I am an emotional wellness coach as well, I deal with a lot of anger and frustration as well as feelings of hopelessness. This means that I have developed ways to keep myself grounded and in the moment. This creates a safe space for my clients where they don't feel judged. As a coach it is important to know that the client will lead the session. If they just want to talk, I allow them. I'm not that strict on what happens in every session. Happy coaching all
