When faced with a sudden budget cut, I focus on what truly matters—delivering value and creating memorable experiences. I streamline the plan, eliminating non-essential elements while preserving the event's core impact. Leveraging strong vendor relationships, I renegotiate contracts and explore creative, low-cost alternatives like minimalistic yet striking decor. Collaborating with sponsors for mutually beneficial partnerships can bridge gaps effectively. Technology also plays a key role; tools like virtual platforms can reduce costs without compromising quality. By staying resourceful and intentional, I ensure the event remains successful, proving that great outcomes don’t always require extravagant budgets.

Create a ROM for every , and I mean every part of your budget ! Set your sights on the middle with the budget allocation you have been given and ensure that event quality can be met no matter where you sit in the ROM .. practice this with previous projects and see where the tipping point is , and most important don’t give up the event integrity, no one will thank you for it ! This takes time and a cool head , don’t assume anything and don’t rely on your contingency … like ever !!

Clarify what are the most important parts of the event that need to go ahead in full, and which will create less damage if cut. This way, instead of cutting across the board, you can cut cleverly but minimize the reduction on impact of the event. We can often add parts to events which are more “nice to have” rather than “must” and we need to be clear with ourselves how much each part contributes to the overall mission.
