How do you retain institutional knowledge when employees leave?

One of the best ways to retain institutional knowledge is to be proactive. We ALL know 95% of them are performative theater. → When possible, normalize "work in public," where decisions and processes are documented AS THEY HAPPEN, not when someone's leaving. 2) Kill the culture that rewards "knowledge hoarding" with status. → Create FINANCIAL INCENTIVES where TEAMS get bonuses for distributed knowledge (a bit of social pressure), NOT individuals for "being irreplaceable." 3) IF UNAVOIDABLE: REhire former employees as part-time consultants at premium rates. → It's cheaper than losing their knowledge entirely, and they'll document everything properly when paid for expertise, not just hours worked.

Importante estimular e praticar a Gestão do Conhecimento no time. Mas para isso funcionar, deve ser apoiado pela alta liderança e fazer dessa ação algo coletivo e incentivado, às vezes esse incentivo vem colocando metas que impactem em avaliações e bônus. Outro grande desafio é a fazer com que a roda gire, de nada adianta ter uma belo repositório, todo um processo definido e os times não utilizarem. A cultura da organização precisa estar bem desenvolvida para que, por exemplo, uma pessoa busque as informações que necessita nos repositórios oficiais ao invés de ficar perguntando para dezenas de pessoas.
