Consider your suppliers as "Business Partner" and create a strong culture of collaboration. In case of any linked quality issues focus on finding a solution together to fix effectively and avoiding re-occurrence. An effective vendor selection process followed by collaboration and continual improvement plan create a win-win and sustainable business relationships.

Ensure that PFMEA and DFMEA (in case of proprietary parts) are adequately worked upon by the supplier and not just "documented" as a formality. Ensure that there are prevention and detection poka-yoke in place for critical to quality parameters. The internal rejections should be treated with utmost urgency and skilled operators are always on the work stations. In case of issues reported, an 8D approach should be adopted ensuring no recurrence of the defect with the ishikawa diagram.

For example, many quality issues can be avoided if both sides share the same defect calibration. A trusted partnership is also fundamental to work efficiently. Suppliers should be transparent and always share the issues they face with their customers, before they turn into bigger problems. Customers, on their side, should make realistic requests and support suppliers to help them improve and grow together. Both sides should keep an open mind and be able to take a step back to encourage a process of continuous improvement. You need to consider your supplier as a stake holder , do proper handling holding in terms of process establishment, training and various IQC and IQC tools so that you will not find any issues during material received. Panelising / Debiting supplier is a older version of technique. Everyone here is willing to do business so you need to act in win-win situation.
