Working in an EPC firm, I often face budget constraints in commercial projects, but I see them as creative opportunities. One thing that works for us is to continually think outside the usual sources- find out what interests the workers…the owners personal likes—photography works beautifully not only describing what the company does but if they are in an area with pride in the city, local sports- incorporate those items into the artwork, murals—furnishings—have used lots of recycled materials over the past few years- adding influence to walls, floors- repurpose lighting- furnishings in different settings—-it’s kind of fun to think what’s new, what’s different- you get to know your clients’ personal taste- our motto for years has been “creating timeless designs to suit your style.” That can certainly play into the design.

Embrace limitations as a creative catalyst, this allows for unique and out of the box ideas to emerge. Furthermore this allows the designer to go back to the basics of primitive forms rather than resorting to the standard.
