Collaboration is key to creating a live event that wows. I start by understanding the client’s goals, priorities, and audience, ensuring our visions align. By proposing creative ideas that complement their expectations and incorporating innovative elements, I enhance the experience. Regular updates, feedback loops, and flexibility ensure that client demands are met while delivering an impactful and memorable event.

Balancing client demands with your vision starts with aligning expectations. If the client's vision clashes significantly with yours, it may signal a poor fit—but consider why you took the job. Often, it's because they’re paying you, and part of your role is to bring their vision to life while presenting respectful, creative alternatives you genuinely believe in. Ultimately, it’s their event, not yours. If their vision compromises your creative integrity too much, complete the job professionally, but reflect on whether to accept similar projects in the future.

Balancing client demands with my vision involves clear communication, collaboration, and adaptability. I start by understanding the client's goals, preferences, and constraints, ensuring their priorities are at the forefront. I then propose creative solutions that align with their vision while incorporating unique elements that enhance the event's impact. Regular updates, seeking feedback, and maintaining flexibility ensure the final outcome exceeds expectations while staying true to both their vision and mine.

The most important thing to keep in mind, is it is the Client's event and not yours. You need to find out what the client's vision is, then do everything possible to deliver it. While it is good offer alternative ideas, you need to let your idea go at the client's first rejection of it. I watched a Decorator try to assume the Coordinators position, and constantly push his own vision for the event. He got himself fired between cocktail hour and the main part of the event. If it is physically possible, and the budget permits, Give the client whatever they want.
