I’ve found the best discussions happen when everyone feels their voice matters. One way I make that happen is by having the least “qualified” person speak first, it also evens the playing field and reminds everyone that a good idea can come from anywhere. I also will lead by example, playing devil's advocate to show that it is okay to challenge ideas. Since I’m usually the "highest-ranking" person in the room, I also make it crystal clear that my opinions are just that, opionions and that they shouldn't hold more weight than anyone else. I want real discussion, not just head-nodding. The goal is to create a space where people feel confident speaking up, even if they don’t have all the answers.
