One thing I find helpful is, as a people manager, you need to listen more, and that will help you understand what drives your staff to take actions on motivating them.

In my student-led club, we stumble into many an obstacle; especially with this being our first year of establishment. What I've found works is consistently sharing pertinent information from the beginning, so we all are aware when a snag is pulled. Then we can have an honest discussion about personal availability (who can contribute to fixing the issue), take stock of options, and plan a strategy to succeed. It helps members feel engaged and inspired to assume responsibility when they've been part of the project all along.
