My rules of thumb is that PCA is great for feature reduction when dealing with a sizable array of features in Machine Learning. In contrast, FA is my go to approach when analyzing survey results, such as customer interviews. Keep in mind that such surveys need to be closed question and the questions need to be reflective of a broader concept that you want to measure. Ensure that the questions adopt the same answer scale. It doesnt matter if the scale is numeric, alphabetic or even Likert (agree, disagree, neutral, etc), it just needs to be consistent
