Maybe this crew member has a compelling reason that this theme really isn't aligned with your goals as an organization, and it's important to be open to considering that -- after all, if one crew member has an issue with it, some potential guests might too. If the event theme really is non-negotiable (as is sometimes the case with concerts, for example), perhaps the crew member would feel more comfortable being temporarily reassigned to another project or a portion of the event prep or takedown. Always thank a crew member who comes to you with their concerns; it shows their trust in you.

Well... the situation can be delicate. The first thing I would do is have an honest conversation where we can find a way forward that doesn't jeopardize the success of the project. But if the outcome of that conversation didn't give me complete confidence that the success of the event wouldn't be at risk, I'd probably look for an alternative solution, which could be inside or outside the team. The success of the event could never be compromised!
