When feedback becomes conversation, not correction, students reflect, take risks, and build boldly. And they follow what you model: innovation within structure, freedom with purpose. That’s how you teach for legacy—not just results. Structure holds the space. Creativity transforms it.

You should also identify how to make sure that the structure of your lessons are intact. This is to avoid creativity from spoiling the main core of your lessons.

Setting objectives is the foundation of any successful plan or project. Clear objectives define what you aim to achieve, providing direction and focus. To be effective, objectives should be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This clarity helps prioritize tasks, allocate resources wisely, and track progress. The objectives need to broad enough to create a challenge, but not so precise that it makes it uniform. In other words, don't create a worksheet, create a project. I can tell you to create a garden, but you have to figure out what to plant, where to plant, how to maintain, etc. I can even break those down farther into each challenge. What makes a good location and where would you put our garden? What plants can work well with others and which ones would have adverse effects? Based on that, what do you want in your garden. So you can create big or small projects, but still scaffold a long the way and have many different outcomes.

You must set flexible plans when balancing between structure and creativity. This is because you need to adjust your plan accordingly. You need to make sure that your lessons are created based on the basics of the syllabus and curriculum. This is so that your students would be able to learn about what's necessary. You should then make sure that you're able to fit in other elements into your lessons. This is so that you would be able to include creativity into it.

Unlike rigid plans, flexible plans build in room for adjustments based on new information, shifting priorities, or external factors.
