Keeping a fleet running smoothly requires preventative maintenance, telematics tracking, driver inspections, efficient scheduling, and strong vendor partnerships. Regular servicing, fuel and tire monitoring, and compliance checks help prevent breakdowns. A solid emergency response plan ensures minimal downtime. Proactive management is key to efficiency and cost savings.

Our fleet demands constant attention, so we focus on preventive maintenance and driver involvement. We’ve implemented daily vehicle checks where drivers inspect for leaks, tire wear, and unusual noises, catching small issues early. Using fleet management software, we track service schedules and breakdown history, ensuring timely repairs. Spare parts availability is key—we stock critical components to avoid delays. Finally, when repairs take too long, we use backup vehicles or third-party services to maintain operations. How do you handle fleet maintenance challenges?

I'm sure that Maintenance is the key point to keeping the fleet operational and ready to be used but I think in my experience the key point is the drivers and how they drive the vehicle. Because, while we can keep improving as much as we can the times with the Maintenance Team, if the car has some degree of "damage" or premature wear because of bad driving, this will never be enough. So we must attack that problem ahead and constantly train our drivers throughout the year at least twice a year. With this your predictions will be more accurate and will reduce expenses. This will also have a positive impact on every person of the company when they are presented with results.

In my view, implementing a robust preventive and predictive maintenance plan is essential for ensuring proper scheduling and seamless execution without disrupting operations. Maintaining accurate records of fleet and operator performance and conduct regular inspections to prevent equipment failures. I believe in continuous training and development of maintenance and driver teams to enhance their skills and performance. By proactively communicating maintenance plans at least a week in advance, I enable planners to manage customer requirements effectively while maximizing workshop efficiency. Through daily coordination with all teams, I strive to achieve an optimal balance between operational needs and customer satisfaction.
