Being comfortable with your own emotions that may come up for you in session and regulating your reaction and response. Emotions, both within yourself and your client, are inevitable. You cannot control your emotions, but you can control the relationship and interaction with your emotions. Although emotion can drive decisions, actions and thus results, unregulated emotion and being uncomfortable with emotions can also have a negative effect on your client’s progress, the coaching process and for you as a professional coach.

Really listen. ⚫ What’s the real roadblock? ⚫ Is it commitment? ⚫ Strategy? ⚫ External factors? Don’t jump to solutions. Validate their feelings. I GET IT. THIS IS TOUGH. Then, revisit the goals. ⚫ Are they still relevant? ⚫ Realistic? Maybe they need tweaking. Small wins build momentum. Celebrate those. Even tiny steps forward count. Finally, adjust the plan. It’s a living document, not set in stone. Coaching is a partnership. It’s about navigating together, even when the road gets bumpy.
