Use the “Feedback Acceptance Framework”: • Reframe feedback as a growth tool: Help your client see feedback as a pathway to success rather than criticism, emphasizing how it accelerates their professional development. • Model active listening: Demonstrate how to process feedback constructively by listening without defensiveness, asking clarifying questions, and extracting value from each comment. • Turn feedback into action: Work with them to set specific, achievable goals based on the input received, fostering accountability and measurable progress. This approach helps clients embrace feedback with confidence, transforming it into a driver for career growth.

Listen actively, reflect to confirm understanding. Probe for core needs beyond surface issues. Spot resistance; use open questions to uncover concerns. Categorize: price, training, complexity, disruption. Tailor responses to each concern with evidence. For price, show ROI. For training, offer support. For disruption, plan for minimal impact. Use examples and data to build trust.

Helping a client overcome resistance to feedback requires a mix of mindset shifts, strategic coaching, and practical exercises. First, help them see feedback as a tool for improvement, not criticism. Ask open-ended questions and address underlying fears like fear of failure, imposter syndrome, and past negative experiences. Also, help the client create a Safe Feedback Environment, Introduce small, Low-Risk Feedback Moments, and teach them to Respond Constructively.

It all depends on the approach with your client. Everyone can be provided with feedback but you must read the energy and the room. The SBI method assists with this approach. Describe the Situation, the Behavior, and the Impact of their actions. This makes the feedback more objective and less likely to feel like a personal attack.
