Burnout is a critical challenge, Some strategies I’ve found effective: * Planned Downtime: Implementing a couple of free days every two months to allow teams to recharge. * Family Inclusion: Organizing two family activities per year to strengthen work-life balance and build community.

Realistically, if your team is facing burn out there are only two reasons: the project isn't engaging them, too many people are wearing too many hats. If your team lacks motivation or isn't engaged, you must first find out why. Not all projects are going to be exciting, so make sure everyone has a clear idea of where your all headed and how long it's going to take to get there. If you have too few people or too many people wearing multiple hats, why is that? Support will be extremely important. Ensuring your and their mental health is in good shape will only get you so far. If people feel overloaded they will burn out faster, telling them about your mental health policy won't solve the problem.

Being on the development team for an AAA video game studio is no easy task. It's long hours of thankless work followed by mediocre magazine reviews and customers complaining about the gender of your main character. However, avoiding burnout is relatively easy. First, solid boundaries between work and home should be set by installing a Faraday cage around the office. You want to cut off all comm with the outside world. You can't be distracted by a family emergency if they can't reach you! Next, set reasonable work hours. Most organizations consider working over 80 hours a week a war crime, but not the gaming industry! Give your game designers a few blankets to make under-desk beds, and they'll be fine. #Productivity
