An audit is an independent examination and the Audit opinion cannot be dicey. Therefore, the results of Audit cannot be uncertain. Audit must always be data-driven. Empirical data, statistical & logical analysis, proper scrutiny of applicable laws, and compliance check with applicable accounting standards & financial reporting framework should be the basis of Audit. Clashes can be avoided if the Audit findings are communicated in advance to the management, rather than sharing all the observations at the end, which may come as a surprise. Things become much clearer and easier when observations are communicated in advance. A data-driven approach & timely communication of findings is a good way to reduce clashes over audit results.
