The show had been planned as a Disney+ release, with James Wan's production company, Atomic Monster, leading the project.

"Well, I know the live-action side of it is, uh, the Atomic Monster had the license to develop a live-action Gargoyles for Disney+, and that’s dead," he told ComicsOnline. "I have no idea about animation, but there are no current plans for live-action."

The show first aired in 1994 and centered on a bunch of (you guessed it) Gargoyles, who turn to stone in daylight hours and find themselves in a modern-day New York City, becoming its defenders. The set is up for preorder on the online LEGO Store, priced at $99.99 with a release date of October 1.

The Wallace & Gromit set is the newest addition to the LEGO Ideas line, a program where fans can submit their own original set designs. After a series of fan-voting, LEGO ultimately picks some submissions to turn into official sets.

The Wallace & Gromit set was originally designed by Sébastien Esnault and submitted to the 90s Throwback - The Next Chapter challenge, where it took home the Grand Winner prize. The official LEGO version of the set looks pretty darn similar to the original build, having simply refined the faces of the iconic duo as well as the structure of the motorbike.

To accompany the set’s reveal, LEGO released an interview with the original Fan designer on their blog. Esnault felt thematically inspired by the duo’s humor and inventiveness, and explains his specific approach to building them in brick form: “To recreate the distinctive clay look, I deliberately chose the most rounded LEGO elements wherever possible.”

The official set includes 1038 pieces, mathing out to slightly over 10 cents ber brick. It’s also marked as an 18+ set intended for adults, so expect some level of complexity.

Wallace and Gromit first used this version of the motorbike and sidecar in A Close Shave, where it’s eventually revealed to have emergency flying features. The plane features don’t seem to have made the LEGO cut, but the shape, color, and license plate are all loyal to the original design.

Images on the LEGO website show off some smaller details, including goggles that Gromit can actually wear and a dedicated motorcycle that can open and close. Easter eggs inside that hatch include box of orange crackers in the style seen throughout the series as well as a diamond referencing the iconic heist from The Wrong Trousers.

The LEGO listing has videos demonstrating some poseability in the duo’s heads and arms. Designer Esnault highlights the effort put into each character’s expressions, saying “It only takes a tiny change in their angle to transform Gromit’s expression from curious to amused or worried.” It doesn't seem like you can fully separate Gromit or Wallace from their vehicle, however, so don’t expect this set to fill the void of action figures.

LEGO Ideas: Wallace & Gromit is now up for preorder and will be releasing on October 1.

Blythe (she/her) is an Audience Development Coordinator at IGN who spends way too much time in character customization screens and tracking down collectibles.

Mondo Unveils The Real Ghostbusters: Louis Tully & Grundel Figures

Mondo continues to cater to The Real Ghostbusters fans with high-end figures worthy of the classic cartoon, and we've got an exclusive first look at their latest release.

While there's no shortage of Ghostbusters collectibles on the market, the pickings are a little slimmer when it comes to toys based specifically on the classic The Real Ghostbusters cartoon. Fortunately, Mondo has been busy filling that void in recent years, and they're back with another exclusive set of 1:12 figures featuring an iconic Ghostbuster paired with a terrifying ghost. Or several ghosts, in this case.

Mondo's latest The Real Ghostbusters set pairs everyone's favorite annoying accountant, Louis Tully, with the ghost known as Grundel. This set even includes a Grundel Alec and a proton pack-wearing Slimer figure for good measure. IGN can exclusively debut the first photos of this timed edition set, which you can see in the slideshow gallery below:

In the tradition of previous Real Ghostbusters releases, the Louis Tulkly & Grundel set includes a wealth of accessories for both characters. We already mentioned the companion Slimer and Grundel Alec figures, but Louis comes with a proton pack, Ghost Trap, PKE Tracker, Ecto Goggles, and an alternate head, while Grundel includes his own interchangeable heads and hands.

The Louis Tully & Grundel set is priced at $202 and is a timed edition exclusive to Mondo's website. If previous Real Ghostbusters releases are any indication, Mondo will later offer the Louis figure on its own as a non-timed edition, but this set will be the only way to acquire Grundel. A Grundel bundle, if you will.

Previously, IGN got an exclusive first look at the Real Ghostbusters: Winston Zeddemore and Sandman set. Whereas most comic-book heroes usually just have a dead relative or two to deal with on the journey to becoming super, in the HBO series’ take on John, the road to being a Green Lantern is paved with… your parents shooting apples off your head.

Those parents, John Sr. (J. Alphonse Nicholson) and Bernadette (Nicole Ari Parker), were of course deeply affected by what could’ve been when John Sr. was offered the Green Lantern ring but passed it up out of fear, leading to Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) claiming the ring instead. But their reaction to that – which is to put the young John Jr. on a merciless path to becoming a GL by wringing all sense of fear out of him – is pretty messed up.

I spoke to Lanterns showrunner Chris Mundy about where the idea to revise John’s origin came from and how it evolved into conditioning him in this manner as preparation for his destiny as a Lantern.

“We hit on that pretty early,” Mundy explained. “We didn't hit on the entire framework of the storytelling in Episode 3 [right away], but we did on the thing that John's dad could have been Hal, and how many others there were. We would always just refer to it as he was bubbled – that John Sr. was bubbled. And then when the Manhunters came into the story, we talked a lot about how they were these entities that just solved trolley problems all the time, so they were programmed to be a certain way.”

We were like, ‘Well, what's the difference between being programmed and being parented so hard?’

A trolley problem is, according to Merriam-Webster, a thought experiment “about a fictional scenario in which an onlooker has the choice to save 5 people in danger of being hit by a trolley, by diverting the trolley to kill just 1 person.” Essentially, it’s Spock’s “the needs of the many” scenario. What sacrifices are acceptable and in which situations? This was key to figuring out John Jr.’s origin.

“[The Manhunters] were so good at it that it was too scary to the Guardians,” continues Mundy, “and they were terminated. And then we were like, ‘Well, what's the difference between being programmed and being parented so hard?’ And the conversations just started converging and it felt really natural.”

So from there, getting to the William Tell of it all wasn’t that difficult. And the idea of John Jr. having to take the ultimate step into eradicating his fear by shooting an apple off of his mother’s head… Well, that came early in the process as well.

“Obviously shooting the apple off his head was in the pilot,” said Mundy. “The very first day in the writer's room, Vanessa [Baden Kelly], who ended up writing Episode 3, John's origin episode, is like, ‘Well, I'd like to see a scene where he shoots it off his mom's head.’ And we're like, ‘Oh, that's great. We don't know how it fits.’ But it was literally day one. So we were always kind of chasing it.”

The idea of the parents trying to make what they perceive to be a better life for their son is in a way a skewed take on the American dream, and it’s clear that concepts like this are laced throughout Lanterns, as show where notions of colonization and the “other” are also prevalent.

“The things I like best are talking about a lot of that kind of stuff without being pedantic or without preaching about any of it,” said the showrunner. “[Those ideas are] putting people in situations and they're talking about some things, but they're not preaching. And hopefully we weren't preaching, but all that stuff is in the mix of what we were putting out there.”

What do you think of John Stewart’s new origin story? The pilot culminated with a jump ahead to 2026 and the reveal that Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) has seemingly been murdered. Episode 2 avoided returning to the 2026 timeline at all, instead ending with circa-2016 Hal travelling to Oa and meeting with an incarcerated Sinestro (Ulrich Thomsen). And now our follow-up to that pivotal meeting is another jump backward, this time to the '80s and '90s for an installment that goes into great detail about John Stewart's peculiar origin story. That approach might almost be frustrating if not for the fact that the execution remains so strong. It turns out that this "mere" flashback episode is the best chapter of Lanterns to date.

Lanterns: Why They Changed John Stewart’s Origin Story in Episode 3

Through its complex but easy-to-follow nonlinear narrative, Episode 3 fills in a great many blanks about John's childhood, his relationship with his parents, his doomed military career, and his recruitment into the Green Lantern Corps. It's interesting how little the series is actually drawing from the comics here. Trace elements remain, like John's mother being a formative influence and the Guardians keeping a watchful eye on him from afar, but for the most part, the show invents this origin story from whole cloth. It's a risk, but a very successful one.

Personally, I've about had my fill of superhero origin stories that center around a character grieving the loss of a parent figure and using that as propellant to become the hero they're destined to be. It's such a common trope in this genre, to the point where even Hal has a variation on that backstory. As such, I greatly appreciate how Lanterns tries to do something very different with John. He's not a plucky orphan. He's a kid whose parents are very much present and active in his upbringing, arguably to his detriment.

There's a very fun balance to the way John Sr. (J. Alphonse Nicholson) and Bernadette (Nicole Ari Parker) are depicted here. On one hand, they're shown to be strong, powerful role models for the impressionable young John Jr. (Cairo Cash Lee). Bernadette in particular serves as an eloquent voice for the show's racial themes, reminding both father and son repeatedly that they have to fight to be heard in a universe that doesn't value them. In a way, the show seems to be offering a more nuanced take on this well-meaning but very hamfisted scene from the Neal Adams/Denny O'Neil Green Lantern run:

On the other hand, these people are f***ing crazy. How do you justify repeatedly shooting apples off your son's head or dumping him to fend for himself on the bad side of <s>Chicago</s> Midway City? They're so wrapped up in the notion of their baby boy becoming a trailblazing superhero that they upend his life and raise him like a super-soldier in the making. Their singleminded obsession doesn't just border on child abuse, it is abuse, and it extends to their other sons as well. It's fascinating to watch two characters who are simultaneously so strong and committed and yet so fundamentally cruel. Again, it's such a refreshing change from the normal superhero tropes.

Both Nicholson and Parker are excellent throughout the episode, allowing us to see these characters as both human beings struggling to overcome adversity and oppressive tyrants in John's life. Parker especially gives us a very nuanced look into Bernadette's worldview and motivations. And. unsurprisingly, Aaron Pierre is a joy to watch in the later scenes focused on adult John. As I've said before, it's easy for a character this stoic and reserved to result in a boring performane, but Pierre is great at conveying all the emotional turmoil John silently wrestles with in his military career, his schooling, and his big interview.

What We Thought of Lanterns Episode 2

"Lanterns continues to impress in its sophomore episode, proving that Kyle Chandler’s Hal and Aaron Pierre’s John are just as entertaining apart as they are together. Hal’s chaotic but surprisingly fruitful detective work is a treat to watch, as is John’s side quest back in Coast City. This episode makes terrific use of Kelly Macdonald’s Sheriff Kerry as the third wheel in their investigation, and it manages to reveal just enough about the true scope of the show’s central murder mystery to keep things interesting. " -Jesse Schedeen, 08/23/2026

Click here to read our full review.

On that note, this is where we also become acquainted with Laura Linney's character, one of the Guardians of Oa in human form. While a part of me wishes the series didn't always have to do this thing where it disguises its aliens as humans, Linney does an admirable job of playing a character who looks ordinary but is distinctly alien all the same. As with the John/Antaan (Paul Ben-Victor) scenes in Episode 2, the careful, purposeful dialogue choices open up a world of opportunity here.

In the end, what we're left with is a very clever, cohesive, and satisfying account of how an ordinary boy becomes groomed for the most important gig in the universe. In a more just world, John Stewart Jr. would have been left free to pursue his art and live life on his own terms. But with parents like these, you really have to take the cards you're dealt.

A few Easter eggs worth mentioning from this episode:

John's assassination target, Gray Wolf, is a minor character from DC's Batman Incorporated comics. It's always amusing to see the random bits of comic lore these DCU projects will mine.

There's a Janus Cosmetics poster in the background of the abandoned mall, referencing the company at the heart of the upcoming Clayface movie. It's another fun Batman-adjacent tidbit, and it does raise the question of whether Clayface is also taking place in the DCU's past (maybe to better justify the fact that Batman doesn't show up?).

It appears that John's childhood room has a sketch of Kilowog on the wall, which is probably the closest we'll get to seeing that particular Lantern in the show. It's interesting how much the average Earthling seems to know about the Green Lanterns in this universe. I guess it all speaks to the idea that metahumans are not a recent phenomenon in this world.

The Pokémon Company on PokémonXP's Lottery System, Long Lines, and Limited Access to Workshops

About 50,000 people are attending PokémonXP and the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco, California. Despite the huge turnout, The Pokémon Company International is aware of the disappointment among fans who either weren’t chosen for particular exclusive activities, or for tickets to the convention at all, and are already considering ways to improve. In a group interview, Chris Brown, Director, Global Esports and Events Producer at The Pokémon Company International, commented on the unique challenges producing an event with this much demand invites, how they may improve processes next time, and their plans for the future.

Getting Badges for PokémonXP and the World Championships

“The public is unaware of the level of demand,” Brown said. “And so, unfortunately, 50,000 people are coming [to PokémonXP], [but] more than that number get the disappointment of [not being] able to sign up.”

More than 130,000 people signed up for the PokémonXP pass interest list.

Interest list sign ups for three-day Passes to PokémonXP, the first official Pokémon fan convention, began April 2, 2026, a little over seven months after it was announced during the closing ceremonies of the 2025 Pokémon World Championships. PokémonXP is occurring simultaneously as the Pokémon World Championships, which, last year, saw 30,000 attendees, more than double the number of the 2024 World Championships.

This year, demand far outnumbered supply, Brown said, with more than 130,000 people throwing their names into the hat for a three-day or single-day badge to PokémonXP – more than twice the number of people who’d be granted entrance, which also includes competitors and their families.

“Basically, anytime your demand well outstrips your supply, the sort of interest list into lottery is the only real way you can handle that,” Brown said.

Brown described that this is true across the events industry, and if it were set up as a “first-come, first-served” online purchasing system, the system would crash and people would error out, making it a worse experience for fans that’s basically a random chance, anyway.

“The only thing I can do from an event operator's perspective is think about, how do we increase supply over time? From a system's perspective, there's honestly not a better system [than interest list into lottery] for that.”

PokémonXP: Improving Access to Special Activities

Over the years, more and more activities have been included in the Pokémon World Championships for fans who weren’t competing. One of these, for example, was the chance to get an autograph from an artist–which about “300ish,” or .03%, of attendees were able to participate in. Brown said this year a little over 2,000 people were able to participate in a special event activity, like autograph sessions and workshops. This is a small number compared to the more than 50,000 people who likely signed up for a chance to participate, but Brown said it’s about the same percentage as have been able to participate in these activities at Worlds in previous years.

This year, a little over 2,000 people are able to participate in a special event activity.

Interest lists for these extra activities, like aforementioned artist meet-and-greet and autograph sessions or workshops like “Create Your Own Clay Pokémon with [TCG artist] Yuka Morii,” were handled similarly to sign up for passes in general: Interest list into lottery.

“A lot of people sign up, a lot of people can't do it, and then there's that disappointment layer,” Brown acknowledged. “And from an events perspective, we have to think, okay, is that rare experience worth the disappointment? And I don't know the answer to that, actually. We want to offer some of those extra premium experiences. We want people to have an equal chance at that, so we allow an interest list to sign up.”

Brown said they’re already considering changes to the system in the future, by, for example, asking fans to include their priority when choosing activities.

"There are some obvious things we can probably do to make it better."

“There are some obvious things we can probably do to make it better, but, there's a philosophical problem, though, of just the supply is below what the demand level is. How do you manage that?” Brown asked. “And if anyone has suggestions, I'm always all ears. But I don't think anyone in the industry's really cracked that. And it's just part of the challenge.”

The Pokémon team’s hope was that there’s so much at PokémonXP and the World Championships that not being chosen for a limited capacity activity wouldn’t detract from the experience for fans. There are partner booths and dozens of first-come, first-served activities that attendees can line up for, side events for the video games and TCG on the World’s side of things, spectator seats for the tournaments, and panels featuring guests like Aardman Animations (known for Wallace and Gromit, who are animating the new Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu), and President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara, who has been a part of the Pokémon franchise since the very beginning.

Ultimately, Brown said success of the event and priorities for changes will come from attendee feedback. For every single event, TPCi measures fan feedback with surveys. The results are converted into a Net Promoter Score (NPS) for internal evaluation. They make a point to read every single text response — which was more than 3,000 from last year’s World Championships, for example.

“Last year’s pin trading was our second highest NPS score of the activities we did [at the 2025 Pokémon World Championships,” Brown said. “So we've got 12 pin trading stations [at PokémonXP]. We've got 300,000 pins we’re giving out at no cost. We did that in response to how well it was received.”

Brown continued: “Now we've got a new problem. Very big lines and a lot of demand for those. So we will learn and try to make that better.”

Update 08/29/26 11:15pm PT: Since first publishing this story, the Pin Rally at PokémonXP on Sunday has been canceled entirely. No reason was given for the cancellation notice in the PokémonEvents app, but the aforementioned "very big lines" may be the cause.

Will there be a PokémonXP next year? Brown said that for now, they're going to see how this year's event goes and decide "what comes next after we get all the feedback and really understand how people receive this year."

Growing Pokémon Events and Future Host Cities

Regardless of attendee feedback, Brown said one big shift they're looking to make is the number of competitors invited to the Pokémon World Championships.

“This year, we qualified about 3,300 [players] globally. We've got about 2,700 that showed up. Our intent over the next five years is to try to double the number of competitive qualified players,” Brown said.

"Our intent over the next five years is to try to double the number of competitive qualified players."

This is still the goal after capping the number of qualifying competitors to a “Top X” format instead of allowing all with a certain number of points earned in a season. During the 2024 Pokémon World Championships in Honolulu, Brown said the team underestimated the number of players who would qualified by about a thousand players, making for a very cramped event.

Specifically, Brown said they want to really focus on the Juniors and Seniors age divisions, as currently, they’re very uneven when compared to the number of Masters division players. To do so, they’re going to work across their global markets and ecosystems to solve just how to do that. The other challenge they're facing, he said, is finding spaces globally that allow TCPi to host the growing number of attendees, regardless if there's a PokémonXP event running alongside the Pokémon World Championships.

“There's only so many, not just cities that have that infrastructure, but [aligned dates] between these two things. And so there will be years that may not be as large as others, because on a long term lens, the world championships, our intent is to move it around,” Brown said.

The World Championships have been in the U.S. for a couple of years, and Brown said some of that was to simplify their operations a bit to maximize success for this year’s PokémonXP. And despite it being easier, they’re not going to let that limit the locations they choose to host the Pokémon World Championships.

“We are going to look outside the U.S. [for the World Championships], obviously.”

“We are going to look outside the U.S., obviously,” Brown said. “We have to, because the [Pokémon] World Championships is meant to serve the world, and for it to do that most effectively, it needs to move around between markets, so that fans anywhere know and players anywhere know that there's a chance Worlds could be getting close to them at some point.”

The first time the Pokémon World Championships was held outside North America was in 2022 in London, United Kingdom. The following year saw it held in Yokohama, Japan. Typically, TPCi announces next year’s location during the Pokémon World Championships’ closing ceremonies, which we’ll be reporting on as they happen Sunday night.

For more on PokémonXP and the Pokémon World Championships for now, you can read about how The Pokémon Company's Ishihara says a challenge for them will be figuring out integrating wearable technology, and brand new info revealed during a PokémonXP panel about the new Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu series.

Everything Coming to Apple TV in September

Apple TV may have just raised its prices again, but the change isn't all that surprising with what the streamer has coming in September. It stars Ryan Reynolds as a a hot-shot U.S. Navy Pilot known as Lieutenant Troy "Assassin" Kelly who gets stranded behind enemy lines. He's discovered by ex-KGB agent Nikolai Ustinov (Kenneth Branagh), who just so happens to hold a certain reverence for American culture. The series is a new take on the Green Lantern lore, starring Kyle Chandler as the veteran Hal Gordon and Aaron Pierre as the new recruit John Stewart. We’ve been pretty impressed with the series so far, calling the premiere “a critical return to form for the DCU.”

Talk to Me (September 1)

Before Kane Parsons (yes, Backrooms is also on this list), we had the Philippou brothers. These content creators marked their directorial debut with Talk to Me, a harrowing horror movie we gave a particularly strong 9/10 and called “engrossing, inventive, and, at times, unsettling.”

While Talk to Me was first released back in 2019, it hasn’t been streaming anywhere for quite some time, making the return to HBO Max particularly significant.

Original Final Destination Movies (September 1)

HBO Max won’t be getting all of the Final Destination movies, but they’ll be picking up some classics at the start of the month. If you enjoyed the most recent slasher instalment, Bloodlines (which is already streaming on the service), why not go back to check out the freak accidents that started it all?

JAŸ-Z IN 8 (Premieres September 18)

One of two HBO Original documentary series premiering in September, Jay-Z in 8 follows the notorious rapper and entrepreneur in Paris as he speaks with Rick Rubin about his music and legacy. In fact, there's a Reacher spin-off arriving on the same day of the finale to do exactly that.

If you're wondering how to make the most of your Prime Video subscription next month, I've curated a quick selection of movies and shows that are absolutely worth your time. You can also jump to the full list of September releases to see the full breakdown by day.

What's Worth Watching?

Over the Garden Wall - September 1

If you're looking for something cozy and wonderful to watch right before fall kicks off, I highly recommend Over the Garden Wall. It only ran for one season on Cartoon Network, but it has everything you could ever want in an animated series. It has some of the weirdness you'd expect from Adventure Time with just enough darkness to fit the summer-to-fall transition.

Like many other Cartoon Network favorites, it was removed from HBO Max years ago but has been available at other services since then. It also got it's first Blu-ray release this year if you'd prefer to own all 10 episodes yourself.

Chef - September 1

For fans of Jon Favreau and food, I recommend checking out 2014's Chef. It's a movie about food and family that resulted in Favreau creating a spin-off docuseries where he learns about the culinary world. Here's a quick summary of what we thought of the film in our review:

"Take away the sentiment, and the bitterness, and you’ve got a fun film about family, food, and the importance of staying true to yourself. Just make sure you eat before watching this one." - Chris Tilly

Van Helsing (2004) - September 1

The 2004 movie starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale is an excellent vampire hunter movie to revisit in the fall. It's a wonderful throwback to simpler times when you could just toss Wolverine into a vampire movie and it just worked. This film also came pretty shortly after Kate Beckinsale's first Underworld movie, solidifying her place in the genre forever.

Demon Slayer (S1-4) - September 15

The Demon Slayer series is one of the most popular anime shows in recent years. There have been four seasons and a few movies so far, so it's a great time to dive into the series for the first time.

The story is set in early 20th century Japan, centering on a teenage boy who becomes a demon hunter to avenge his family and save his sister. Amazon is also bringing the Mugen Train movie to its service, so you can catch up on most of the story pretty quickly this month.

Neagley - September 16

On the same day that Reacher Season 4 comes to an end, Prime Video is dropping all eight episodes of the spin-off series at once. The show focuses on private investigator Frances Neagley as she unravels the suspicious death of her friend. Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) will guest star in the series in a more supporting role.

The Love Hypothesis - September 23

IGN hasn't had the chance to watch The Love Hypothesis ahead of its release, but it's intriguing nevertheless. The movie is based on Ali Hazelwood's popular romance novel of the same name, which actually got its start as Star Wars "Reylo" fanfiction. Of course, the big headline from this week is GTA 6. (Did your Netflix break when you tried to log on to watch the Extended Look right when it dropped?) But gamescom has also been busy shelling out one trailer after another since Tuesday’s Opening Night Live. What’s included here is merely a tiny smattering of the biggest hits; you can peruse all of them — there are currently 187 — at your leisure on IGN’s YouTube channel.

Here are the trailers you should watch from this week (and here’s what you missed last week).

Grand Theft Auto 6 extended look

In the trailer event to end all trailer events, Rockstar finally dropped a long 27-minute look at the most anticipated game of the decade after enduring a series of brutal leaks (that seems like it might also have been a crypto scheme). What else is there to say that my esteemed colleagues have not already? Obviously, it looks insane.

GTA 6 is coming out on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19.

Fable quest gameplay

There’s tons of new footage from Fable that you can check out from gamescom — plus, read our preview — but I was particularly drawn to these 18 minutes of quest gameplay that takes the Hero through the massive and gorgeous Bowerstone (130 homes and 30 businesses and you can go in all of them???), highlights some character interactions (I also would have thrown the beer at Humphry), and shows off a tiny bit of combat (I scrubbed back on shooting that one thug in the knee with an arrow like three times, very good).

Fable releases on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 23, 2027.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered + Songs of the Past DLC

The Witcher 3 got a twofer out of gamescom 2026: a remaster trailer (which will be free for players who already own the game) and the Songs of the Past DLC. Of course, some exclusive reveals and big announcements are expected, and one of those involves the brand’s next big animated series.

First announced in July 2025, The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu is exactly what it sounds like — a charming, humorous romp that follows the two Pokémon as they get into all sorts of hijinks in Galar.

As revealed at PokémonXP, the series will be streamed exclusively on Disney+ and the DisneyXD channel. This was an unexpected turn of events, as the brand’s first stop motion series, Pokémon Concierge, streams solely on Netflix.

This new show is being made in collaboration between The Pokémon Company International and Aardman Animations, the British stop-motion animation studio best known for beloved properties like Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep.

As told during the show’s behind-the-scenes panel at PokémonXD, there are 262 people working on the project at any given time. Each animator achieves roughly 13.5 seconds of animation per week, with each episode taking 110 weeks to complete. Three episodes are usually in production simultaneously, allowing the crew to get as much work done as possible.

Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, our new stop-motion animated series with @aardman, is coming to @DisneyPlusUK in 2027! 🛡️⚡

Join our unlikely heroes, Sirfetch’d and Pichu, in their gallant quest to protect Pokémon across Galar. pic.twitter.com/D3UBkZ3pBE
— Pokémon UK (@PokemonNewsUK) August 28, 2026

The panel also showed off the very first animation tests for both Pichu and SirFetch’d, as well as an official trailer for the show, which will release sometime in 2027.

The series' official logline reads: "Our heroes embark on a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region. The short answer is that you'll be getting much of the same from Peacock next month. YouTube Premium isn't getting added to the service until early 2027, and the highly anticipated Dungeon Crawler Carl series is even further away.

What you will get is Universal Pictures movies, NBC shows, and a couple of Peacock Originals. If you're looking for something fun to kick off the spooky season early, it's worth a watch. Here's what we said in our review:

"Happy Death Day is a deliciously wicked treat with fun twists and a strong lead performance by Jessica Rothe. It won’t scare you, but it will entertain you with a cynical sense of humor and a few clever new twists on a familiar formula." - William Bibbiani

The Twilight Movies - September 1

What more can really be said about the Twilight movies? The first adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's popular YA book series is just as bad as you remember, but it's what put Robert Pattinson on the map. The following four movies did get better, and it's just one of those franchises that you have to go back and rewatch sometimes. There may be better vampire movies out there, but there's only one Twilight.

The Paper: Season 2 Premiere - September 9

The Paper is a mockumentary-style TV series set in the same universe as The Office. This is the only big Peacock Original for September. The premiere of Season 2 comes after a well-received Season 1, which we loved in our 8 out of 10 review last year:

"The first season of The Paper (the first of several, I hope) is getting an 8. Ironically, a show about the place of ink-and-paper journalism in a social media era is weaker because it’s clearly wanting to be a 20+ episode season kind of show that fell victim to dropping in the binge-and-stream era. The tried and true formula creator Greg Daniels has honed across a handful of successful series is on full display in The Paper. The character archetypes you’d expect from an Office spin-off are here, as is the easy sense of positivity and that change for the good is possible that you might expect from the creator of Parks and Rec. Maybe it moves a little too briskly for its own good, arriving at places we can all see coming, but they’re satisfying places and it’s funny the whole trip." - Clint Gage

The Phoencian Scheme - September 25

You're either a fan of Wes Anderson movies or you're not, there's not really any in between. For those who love what the director has to offer, his latest film The Phoenician scheme is arriving later this month. Here's what we said in our review:

"A new Wes Anderson movie is always an event, but the writer-director’s latest whirligig comedy, The Phoenician Scheme, might be his slightest in a couple decades. Benicio del Toro is predictably deadpan (maybe too deadpan) as a powerful 1950s European robber baron beset by assassins and intent on passing down his entire empire and inheritance to his estranged daughter. Much of the rest of the extended Anderson acting troupe shows up in minor roles, as usual, while Michael Cera makes a particularly amusing debut in Wes World as a Norwegian bug expert along for the wild ride. As with all of Anderson’s comedies, this one has big laughs, visual invention, and some startlingly dark moments. But it also can’t help but look like a minor disappointment after the richer Asteroid City. The major problem: There’s just not much to del Toro’s character, a Royal Tenenbaum without the spunk." - A.A. But Marvel seems to have planned for this situation, with filming essentially tacked on to the start of filming for 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars, which is expected to begin its own production shoot in September.

Indeed, it's likely that any additional work on Doomsday at this stage will be for shorter scenes or smaller moments, rather than any major alterations to Doomsday's plot. Comments from Marvel tipster Daniel Richtman, who has a decent track record reporting MCU leaks, suggest that this filming will be used to "add a lot of cameos" — of which OG Avenger Hawkeye is presumably one.

After appearances in numerous MCU films, audiences last saw Renner as Hawkeye in the enjoyable Disney+ TV series of the same name, where he mentored Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop and saved the day just in time for Christmas. Since then, Renner has been recovering from injuries sustained during his serious snowplough accident in January 2023, and said he had turned down a subsequent offer to return for a second season of Hawkeye due to a disagreement with Disney over pay.

"They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount," Renner claimed.

"I'm like, 'I'm sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that's why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.' This is not Marvel, mind you. This is like, just Disney, not even really Disney. It’s just the penny pinchers, the accountants. I told them to go fly a kite. I mean, just at the insult offer. So we didn’t see eye to eye on it."

Thankfully, Renner suggested he was still open to appearing as Hawkeye again, just not in those circumstances. And now, it seems, we may get one more appearance from the Avengers' best archer, at least.

Avengers: Doomsday is finally set to arrive in theaters on December 18, and even without Renner and the addition of further cameos, boasts one of the most stacked movie casts of all time. Fan interest and excitement for Avengers: Doomsday has been strong, with ticket pre-sales shifting faster than those for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The post — which has since been deleted — was cleverly structured, appearing as an official Pokémon advertisement with a link to a site that, at first glance, looked like a legitimate page celebrating the brand’s 30th anniversary, which is ongoing.

“Celebrate 30 years of Pokémon in a whole new way!” the post read. “Introducing $POKEMON, the official Pokemon memecoin. Join trainers around the world and be part of the #Pokemon30 celebration.”

The post was up for around 30 minutes before it was finally taken down. Most commenters weren’t fooled, though, and it wasn’t long before proposed community notes began appearing underneath the supposed scam on X.

Pokémon published a statement addressing the hack shortly afterward, acknowledging that the account had been compromised for a thirty-minute period.

“We’re aware that our X account was accessed without authorization and used to publish posts promoting a cryptocurrency,” it wrote. “Those posts were not created or approved by Pokémon and have been removed. We have secured the account and are investigating the incident. We’re sorry for the confusion and appreciate your patience.”

The @Pokemon handle on X was temporarily compromised earlier for ~30 minutes.

We’re aware that our X account was accessed without authorization and used to publish posts promoting a cryptocurrency.

Those posts were not created or approved by Pokémon and have been removed. However, this post was also deleted shortly after being published, and no follow-up remarks have yet been made on the account regarding the hack.

It's unclear if any damage was done as a result of the incident, but this wouldn't be the first time the brand has been digitally infiltrated. In late 2024, a hacker performed one of the largest leaks of Pokémon materials in history after servers at developer GameFreak were breached.

What resulted was "hundreds of gigabytes to nearly a terabyte" of internal data getting spread around the net, which reportedly included concept art, unused Pokémon prototoypes, source code, and even codenames for planned future games.

And in 2025, hackers released Pokémon Legends: Z-A files that included gameplay videos showing cut content and early builds of the game.

Thankfully, this latest incident wasn't nearly as terrifying as either of those two hacks, and the official Pokémon account is far from the first profile on X to get hijacked by cryptocoin scammers... though that isn't exactly a comforting thought. In fact, the hacker behind the infamous GTA 6 leaks has also hawked a crypto scheme, though the gameplay footage they showed pales in comparison to the viral Netflix showcase that aired on the platform earlier today.

Virginia (she/her) is IGN’s News Editor. But beyond that, the episode also gives us some nice Scotty (Martin Quinn)/Pelia (Carol Kane) interplay. And it’s also just a cracking good hour of drama, action, and sci-fi spectacle.

When the Enterprise gets stuck in a slipstream wormhole, the devastation wreaked on the ship is abrupt – and fatal for some. Then there’s the crewmembers like M’Benga, who survives the initial blast but is mortally wounded; the doctor specifically is trapped behind a medical bay table, which has crashed into him and essentially severed his body at the midsection. Once the table is moved, he’ll be dead. But that’s where Chapel comes in…

I just mentioned in my interview with Olusanmokun a couple of weeks ago that the thing about Dr. M’Benga is we know he’s going to survive the show, because his character shows up on The Original Series. But somehow that knowledge doesn’t take the tension out of his predicament this week, perhaps because Strange New Worlds plays so fast and loose with continuity that I was actually thinking while watching, “Maybe that’s a different M’Benga on The Original Series!” But also because the relationship between M’Benga and Chapel is so well-realized that just seeing them deal with this situation, and the emotion between them, is gripping in and of itself.

Read Last Week's Review:

Yeah, This Is the One With the Puppets... Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4, Episode 5 Review/Recap

It’s also magnified by the fact that we learn here that M’Benga is thinking about leaving the Enterprise, and has even called in Dr. Boyce (Brian Markinson, who has previously appeared on TNG, DS9, and Voyager!) – the former (interim) chief medical officer of the Enterprise – to presumably replace him when he leaves. This is intriguing because we at home know that Strange New Worlds only has a handful of episodes left (including the abbreviated next and final season), and so characters like M’Benga and La’an who aren’t on The Original Series are going to have to start to depart the show at some point – and will be doing so one way or another, for better or worse.

Episode writer Bill Wolkoff, director Dan Liu, and the production team manage to depict space-travel danger here in a way that we have rarely seen in the franchise, as when the gravity controls onboard begin to malfunction, crushing pianos and whatnot, or when Spock and La’an have to climb onto the exterior of the ship during a pyrotechnic neutrino storm. And Scotty learning to “feel” the Enterprise and interpret its status like some kind of starship whisperer is also a nice touch, a call back (call forward?) to the Scotty who will someday say that he could tell the speed his ship was traveling “by the feel of the deck plates.”

I’m actually surprised at how much I’ve come to enjoy this version of Scotty, even as the frequent focus on him has meant that Kane’s Pelia usually takes a back seat. But here the mentor/mentee interplay between the two really works, as we see how she is helping to mold him into the man we all know he’s becoming. That all the problems the crew are facing end with a technobabble solution was perhaps inevitable, but it doesn’t make what has come before any less exciting or moving, and if anything, “Off-Hour” is a reminder that when Strange New Worlds cooks, it really cooks.

Questions and Notes from the Q Continuum:

Of course, this isn’t the first time Star Trek has done a “disaster in space” episode. Just look at TNG’s appropriately named “Disaster” for starters.

Pour one out for all those poor, irradiated bastards in Engineering who didn’t make it out after the blast doors shut. Red Shirts galore!

Dr. Phil Boyce was the original doctor on the Enterprise, first (and only, until now) seen in the unaired pilot of The Original Series, “The Cage.” There he was played by John Hoyt and depicted as a kindly and wise friend to Jeffrey Hunter’s Captain Pike – who also had a talent for making martinis. But interestingly, by the time of the second pilot, “Where No Man Has Gone Before” (where William Shatner made his debut), neither M’Benga nor Boyce was the chief medical officer onboard. Rather, Dr. Mark Piper (Paul Fix) served in that capacity for a one-episode stint before DeForest Kelley’s Dr. Leonard McCoy finally showed up. So how this will all work out remains to be seen.

Again with the gore! M’Benga being cut in half I get, and the episode is pretty restrained in how it depicts it. But then they just had to show us Una’s compound fracture and Chapel’s finger breaking off. The line will seemingly include four new pairs of Crocs, two standard and two in the Echo style, each of which is themed after specific characters and cards. Those attending the World Championship also got a look at a new limited-edition Yu-Gi-Oh card themed after the collection.

The Crocs website has a section dedicated to the collaboration, but individual listings have yet to appear. Konami and Crocs have yet to confirm a wide release date or pricing, but some outlets are reporting a potential release in September.

OFFICIAL LOOK: Yu-Gi-Oh! x Crocs Collection 🃏🐉

Classic Clogs
- Yugi Yami
- Seto Kaiba

Echo Clogs
- Dark Magician
- Blue-Eyes White Dragon

🗓️ September 2026 pic.twitter.com/iB9HWKqofE
— Sole Retriever (@SoleRetriever) August 25, 2026

The four Crocs shown off at the World Championship can be seen above. The two standard Clogs are themed after Yugi Mutou, the show’s main character, and his rival Seto Kaiba. The colorways are largely inspired by their respective outfits, Decks, and, of course, Yugi’s iconic hair.

The Echo clogs have quite a bit more dimension, and are both themed after specific cards that also make appearances in the original anime. One pair takes its purple inspiration from the Dark Magician. The other is inspired by none other than the legendary Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Seto’s go-to creature and one of the most valuable cards in real life.

Promotional images also suggest the collaboration will feature a line of Jibbitz, including accessories modeled after straight-up Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

Yu-Gi-Oh really committed to the Crocs collab 😭🐊

Alongside four character-inspired Crocs, they made a “Crocodile” promo card featuring an actual crocodile WEARING Crocs 😂

It’s even Level 3 with 1300 ATK/DEF and flavor text referencing the 13 holes on its feet. pic.twitter.com/49qErCc2Tm
— The Collectibles Guru (@gurucollects) August 25, 2026

Speaking of cards, the Crocs-themed card that was shown off at the convention is simply titled ‘Crocodile,’ a Reptile/Normal card with 1300 ATK and 1300 DEF. Fun fact: Crocs have exactly 13 holes in them. Images posted online don’t appear to show any special card effects, but it could be an interesting grab for collectors.

At this point, there’s no word on whether the card will be available for purchase or included as part of the Crocs collection.

Crocs has truly been going full LEGO mode with the collaborations, including Animal Crossing, Super Mario, and over the next couple of months, Pokemon-themed clogs.
