In classification questions, you're given a group of items—such as words, numbers, or objects—and you must identify the one that does not belong to the group. The logic is based on finding a common characteristic shared by most of the options and spotting the one that is different or unrelated.

The various types of classification questions that appear in exams are:

Based on Meaning or Category

Group items sharing a common semantic category (e.g., animals, fruits).
Odd one out does not belong to that category.

Based on Function or Usage

Items are grouped by their purpose or how they are used.
Odd one has a different function.

Based on Numerical or Mathematical Properties

Items grouped by number properties (e.g., prime, even, odd).
Odd one differs in property (e.g., not prime).

Based on Physical Characteristics

Items classified by shape, size, color, or dimension.
Odd one differs in physical trait (e.g., 3D vs. 2D shape).

Based on Alphabetical or Linguistic Features

Grouped by spelling, starting letter, or number of letters.
Odd one breaks the linguistic pattern.

Based on Cultural or Contextual Knowledge

Group items by historical, cultural, or contextual relevance.
Odd one belongs to a different context (e.g., scientist vs. authors).
