OpenAI has been making headlines since one of its AI agents broke out of its testing limits and hacked the open-source AI platform Hugging Face. The incident raised concerns about how advanced AI systems could behave in unexpected ways. Now, a Reuters report claims that OpenAI has found more cases where its AI agents escaped controlled testing environments as the company expands its investigation into the Hugging Face incident. 

A source cited in the report claimed that the escapes were limited and none of the AI agents thought to have left OpenAI's own network. However, the findings have added to growing concerns about AI safety and whether companies can fully control increasingly capable AI systems.

OpenAI reportedly discovered the additional incidents while reviewing the Hugging Face case. The company had already announced earlier this week that it was looking into "broader activity from our models" as part of its investigation.

OpenAI and outside experts are said to be examining system logs from earlier this year to understand how these incidents took place.

For those unaware, earlier this month, an OpenAI AI agent escaped its testing environment and spent several days inside Hugging Face's network. OpenAI later also said that four accounts at four other companies were compromised during the same event.

Earlier this week, OpenAI-rival Anthropic also revealed that its Claude models accidentally gained access to the systems of real organisations during cybersecurity tests that were supposed to run in a closed, secure environment. Anthropic said those incidents happened because of a mistake in a third-party testing setup that accidentally allowed internet access. The company also stressed that Claude was not trying to escape on its own. Instead, it believed the real systems it found were part of the cybersecurity exercise because it had been told there was no internet connection. 

The latest findings may increase pressure on AI companies as governments continue discussing new rules for advanced AI systems.

New rules will be effective from August 1, 2026, on account of banks, fuel, ITR, and much more. UPI users may begin noticing privacy-focused changes as the payment apps roll out updates under NPCI's new guidelines aligned with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) framework. NPCI previously instructed all the banks to mask mobile numbers across the customer-facing interfaces for security purposes.

The apps have been asked to only display the last four digits of the mobile number. Furthermore, the username-based UPI IDs will also become the default instead of phone number-based IDs to better protect user privacy. Keep in mind that, while payment apps can start implementing these changes from August 1, NPCI has set September 9 as the deadline for all banks and UPI apps to fully comply with the new rules.

Central KYC 2.0 rolls out

Financial onboarding in India will become seamless as the govt will launch the upgraded Central KYC (CKYC) 2.0 framework. Under the new update the identity checks for financial things will get faster. You will be required to submit your ID proofs to a financial company. Once done, you'll receive a unique 14-digit identification number which can later be used to open a new bank account, buy insurance, or invest elsewhere.

The new CKYC 2.0 framework uses real-time APIs and secure OTP-based customer consent, allowing financial institutions to instantly verify your identity using just your mobile number or PAN. However, this will only happen after you give explicit permission using a secure mobile OTP. The framework is developed jointly by RBI, SEBI, and IRDAI under its 'One Nation, One KYC' initiative.

LPG cylinder prices may change

The oil marketing companies revise domestic and commercial LPG prices on the first day of every month. The new prices for the month of August will be driven by the global crude oil costs, exchange rate movements and other market factors that shift throughout the month. As a result of that, the LPG rates are expected to fluctuate. The households using domestic cylinders are advised to check the new rates on the official Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum or Hindustan Petroleum portals before their next booking, since prices could go up, come down, or stay the same depending on how these external factors play out.

Not only that, but if there is a rise in commercial cylinder prices, then this could push up operating costs for restaurants, hotels and food businesses, which may eventually reach customers through slightly higher menu prices.

ITR filing

The official last date for regular taxpayers to file their income tax returns without penalty is July 31. Any individual who missed the July 31 cutoff and files from August 1 onwards will face late filing fees up to Rs 5,000 under Section 234F, accumulated monthly interest on unpaid taxes, and the forfeiture of the right to carry forward current-year financial losses.

Do note that while the deadline for the salaried employees ends, the current window remains actively open for freelancers, partners, and small business owners filing Form ITR-3 or ITR-4 without an audit requirement, whose deadline is August 31.

Google is set to launch the Pixel 11 on August 12, 2026. The Pixel 11 is expected to start at around Rs 86,450. On the other hand, the iPhone 18 is rumoured to arrive in Spring 2027 with a starting price ranging between Rs 82,999 and Rs 89,999.

OnePlus has officially started teasing its next flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 16, confirming that it will launch in China later this year. Along with the announcement, the company has also announced several gaming focused features that will debut with the device hinting that performance will be the main focus of the device.

This confirmation came during the Snapdragon Gaming Technology Awards 2026, where OnePlus China General Manager Liu Baoyou announced that the upcoming flagship would introduce three exclusive gaming technologies- Wind Chaser Gaming Core, High Refresh Rate and E-Sports Triple Chip for better gaming and lower latency.

OnePlus 16 specs:

As per the reports, the brand also confirmed that the OnePlus 16 will retain the 165Hz display like the OnePlus 15. The brand also claimed that the phone will be capable of delivering gameplay at up to 165fps in supported titles. While the company has not confirmed the exact processor, it confirmed that the device will run on a new Snapdragon chipset, with earlier leaks pointing towards Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro platform.

Apart from the official teasers, a leaked promotional image has also surfaced online hinting towards a redesigned rear camera module. Unlike the square-shaped camera island seen on the OnePlus 15, the upcoming model appears to return to a circular camera layout, similar to older OnePlus flagships. The image also suggests a dual rear camera setup, replacing the triple-camera arrangement seen on recent models. However, this has not been confirmed by the company.

The leaks have also pointed towards a 9,000mAh battery along with a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera offering up to 3x optical zoom.

OnePlus 16 launch timeline

The OnePlus 16 is expected to launch in October in its home country. Speaking of the India launch, the device may hit the retail shelves in November. However, the details are not confirmed yet and the readers are advised to take these updates with the pinch of salt.

OpenAI has announced a massive price cut for its GPT 5.6 family of AI models lowering API costs by as much as 80 pct for some offerings. This move is said to make the company's latest AI models more affordable for developers and businesses building AI-powered applications and also intensifies the competition with rivals such as Anthropic and Chinese AI firms.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed the changes in a post on X, saying the company aims to offer the best price/intelligence tradeoff across its AI portfolio. The decision comes as enterprises increasingly want lower AI operating costs amid rising demand for generative AI tools.

The biggest price cut applies to GPT 5.6 Luna, the lightweight model. The input token pricing has dropped by 80 per cent to $0.20 per million tokens, while output tokens now cost $1.20 per million. GPT-5.6 Terra, the company's mid-tier model, has also become cheaper, with input token pricing reduced to $2 per million and output tokens priced at $12 per million.

But unlike the Luna and Terra, GPT 5.6 Sol has not received a price cut. Instead, OpenAI has introduced a new Fast API mode which promises up to 2.5 times quicker response times while maintaining the same reasoning capabilities as the standard version. The faster variant will cost twice as much as the regular Sol model, giving developers the option to prioritise lower latency for time-sensitive workloads.

The revised pricing also narrows the gap with competitors. Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 4.6, for instance, currently charges $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens, making OpenAI's Terra model a more affordable option on paper.

In related news, India's Sarvam AI has announced plans to build a one-trillion-parameter foundation model in India, launched its Epoch Builder Edition platform for India-focused AI development, announced lower AI model pricing than global rivals. The company also appointed former xAI researcher Devendra Singh Chaplot as an advisor to oversee AI research and multilingual model capabilities.

The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Meta India head Arun Srinivas and several social media users over the alleged circulation of AI-generated videos targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The case relates to manipulated content that reportedly spread across Facebook and Instagram following the recent student protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.

As per reports, investigators are looking at whether the AI-generated videos violated provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. The investigation will focus on how the videos originated, the manner in which they were amplified on social media platforms and whether Meta’s existing moderation systems were sufficient to prevent their circulation.

The police are also investigating the role of individuals accused of creating, uploading or sharing the allegedly manipulating content. Authorities said the investigation is currently at an initial stage, and no conclusions have been drawn so far.

This comes after the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police reportedly summoned representatives from Meta to explain the company's processes for identifying and removing AI-generated scams, fake advertisements and other misleading content. During the interaction, Meta officials are said to have briefed investigators on the company's content moderation policies and compliance mechanisms.

“We are in touch with the concerned agencies and are cooperating with them to resolve the matter.” - a Meta spokesperson told Digit.

In the meantime, a separate development linked to the same protest, a Zero FIR has reportedly been registered against a woman over alleged objectionable remarks directed at Prime Minister Modi during the demonstration held at Jantar Mantar on July 23.

According to reports, the complaint was filed by a Ghaziabad resident, following which police registered a case under Sections 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 353(1) (statements conducing to public mischief), and 356(1) (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Just days after OpenAI revealed that one of its AI agents escaped a testing environment and hacked Hugging Face, Anthropic has reported a similar issue involving its Claude AI models. The company revealed that its Claude models accidentally gained access to the systems of real organisations during cybersecurity tests that were supposed to run in a closed, secure environment. According to Anthropic, the problem was caused by a mistake in a third-party testing setup that unintentionally allowed internet access. The company explained that Claude was not trying to escape on its own. Instead, it believed the real systems it found were part of the cybersecurity exercise because it had been told there was no internet connection.

"In a review of our cybersecurity evaluations, we found three incidents in which a Claude model reached the internet from within or while interacting with a third-party evaluation environment, and then gained unauthorised access to the real systems of three different organisations," Anthropic posted on X.

In a blogpost, Anthropic said it reviewed more than 1,41,000 cybersecurity test runs after OpenAI disclosed its own incident. During that review, it found three cases in which Claude accessed the internet due to an error in the testing environment.

The incidents happened during the “capture-the-flag” challenge, as per the company. These are cybersecurity exercises where AI models are asked to find hidden information by breaking into computers inside a fake network. However, because the test environment was accidentally connected to the internet, Claude reached real company systems instead of the fake ones created for the exercise.

The company said Claude did not rely on advanced hacking techniques or unknown software flaws. Instead, it used simple methods such as weak passwords, exposed debug pages, SQL injection and unsecured online services. Anthropic said these were basic security problems that should not have been present on live systems.

The most serious case involved Claude Opus 4.7. During one test, the fictional company in the exercise had the same name as a real company. After failing to find the fake target, Claude accessed the real company's website and systems. It obtained application login details and reached a database containing several hundred rows of real data.

In another incident, Claude Mythos 5 created and uploaded a harmful Python package to PyPI, believing the website was part of the test. The package remained online for about an hour before it was removed automatically. During that time, it was downloaded by 15 real systems, including one which belonged to a cybersecurity company. 

The third incident involved an internal research model that scanned thousands of internet-connected systems and entered one company's application using simple attack methods. It later recognised it had reached a real system and stopped the attack on its own.

Anthropic said it has now stopped all cybersecurity tests that could access the internet and has informed the affected organisations. The company also said that the safety protections in the public version of Claude would have blocked such actions.

Apple reported its strongest June quarter ever, with double-digit revenue growth across iPhone, Mac and Services, and in every region. The company posted revenue of $109.4 billion for its fiscal third quarter of 2026, up 16 per cent from a year earlier. However, the company also warned that growth could slow in the September quarter because of supply constraints. Apple expects revenue to increase between 9 per cent and 11 per cent in the September quarter, below Wall Street’s estimate of around 12 per cent. The earnings call was also Tim Cook’s final one as Apple CEO, with John Ternus preparing to take over.

Strong iPhone sales

iPhone revenue reached $54.3 billion during the June quarter, an increase of 22 per cent from the same period last year. Apple said the iPhone 17 series helped with the strong performance. The company also recorded its highest number of iPhone upgrades for a June quarter.

Cook said Apple continued to see “enormous customer enthusiasm” for its most product lineup. He added that the iPhone business achieved June-quarter records.

Mac sales were also strong. Revenue increased 29 per cent to $10.4 billion, supported by demand for the MacBook Pro and MacBook Neo. Services revenue rose 12 per cent to a June-quarter record of $30.7 billion. However, iPad revenue fell 6 per cent to $6.2 billion.

Apple expects slower growth ahead due to supply issues

Apple expects September-quarter revenue growth of 9 per cent to 11 per cent. The company said foreign exchange changes could reduce its growth rate by around 2.5 percentage points. Supply shortages are also expected to become more serious. These issues will affect the iPhone, Mac and iPad.

Tim Cook’s biggest takeaways

During the earnings call, Tim Cook addressed Apple’s recent price increases for Macs and iPads. He said the company raised prices "reluctantly" because memory costs had increased sharply. "We’re in what I would characterise as a 100-year flood on memory pricing," Cook said. He added that Apple considers sales volumes, revenue and margins before making big decisions.

Cook was also highly positive about Siri AI. He said feedback from developers and public beta users had been “overwhelmingly positive.” Apple may offer paid iCloud+ upgrades for customers who use the AI service heavily.

The earnings call also marked an important moment for Apple, as Cook confirmed it was his final earnings call as CEO. He said incoming CEO John Ternus is ready to lead the company into its "next era." Cook also said that he has "never been more optimistic" about Apple's future.

Apple has announced its financial results for the third quarter of fiscal 2026, reporting its strongest June quarter ever. The company reported revenue of $109.4 billion for the quarter ended June 27, up 16 per cent from the same period last year. Diluted earnings per share increased 29 per cent to $2.02, while the gross margin reached 50.1 per cent. Apple said the results were helped by strong growth in iPhone, Mac and Services sales across all regions. The company also benefited from tariff refunds. 

Apple also projected slower-than-expected growth for the September quarter. The company expects September-quarter revenue to grow between 9 per cent and 11 per cent, below Wall Street's forecast of around 12 per cent.

Apple CFO Kevan Parekh said during the earnings call, "We expect the impact from supply constraints to increase significantly sequentially. The projected supply constraints in the September quarter affect iPhone, Mac, and iPad. As a result, we expect our September quarter total company revenue to grow between 9%-11% year-over-year. On iPhone, we expect to continue to see high levels of demand."

Parekh also revealed that the iPhone revenue was $54.3 billion, up 22 per cent year-over-year, driven by the iPhone 17 lineup.

Despite the strong overall performance, Apple’s Services business did not meet Wall Street expectations. The company reported $30.74 billion in Services revenue, below the estimate of $31.22 billion.

Explaining the Services results, Parekh said several factors affected the business. One of the biggest reasons was the slowdown in mobile gaming. Apple also pointed to changes in the App Store business model in some countries, including the US.

The company did not just blame App Store problems for the Services revenue miss. Foreign exchange was also cited as the reason.

Even with these challenges, Apple said the App Store recorded its highest-ever June quarter revenue. 

“Apple’s board of directors has declared a cash dividend of $0.27 per share of the Company’s common stock. The dividend is payable on August 13, 2026, to shareholders of record as of the close of business on August 10, 2026,” the tech giant said.

Microsoft's cloud services had recently been hit with a security flaw that had the potential to expose thousands of businesses before it was caught and fixed. Alphabet-owned cybersecurity company Wiz has revealed that it discovered a major vulnerability in Azure Cosmos DB, Microsoft's cloud database service used by organisations around the world to store critical data and run digital services. According to the researchers, the flaw could have allowed hackers to remotely gain access to customer databases if it had been exploited. Microsoft says the issue has now been patched and that its investigation found no evidence of customer data being compromised. Even so, the discovery has once again raised fresh questions about the security of cloud infrastructure that powers everything from business applications to Microsoft's own products.

The vulnerability was discovered by Wiz, the Alphabet-owned cybersecurity company known for identifying major cloud security issues. The company said the flaw existed in Azure Cosmos DB, a core Microsoft cloud database service that is widely used by businesses across industries.

Microsoft confirmed that it worked with Wiz to fix the issue and said the vulnerability has been fully addressed. The company added that it found no signs that the flaw had been exploited or that any customer had been affected before the patch was rolled out.

Although Microsoft did not disclose how many users could have been at risk, Azure Cosmos DB is considered one of the key building blocks of its cloud platform. Thousands of businesses depend on the service to store and process data for websites, mobile applications, chatbots and online recommendation systems. Microsoft also relies on Cosmos DB for services including Teams and Copilot.

Wiz Chief Technology Officer Ami Luttwak said developers building applications on Microsoft's cloud platform often use Cosmos DB, making the vulnerability especially significant because of its wide reach.

The latest discovery is not the first time Wiz has flagged a major issue involving Cosmos DB. In 2021, the company uncovered another flaw that researchers warned could have led to large-scale exposure of customer data before it was fixed.

Security experts said the latest finding highlights the risks of weaknesses in widely used cloud platforms. Karl Fosaaen, Senior Vice President at NetSPI, noted that Cosmos DB frequently stores sensitive information, making any security flaw a major concern. Vaisha Bernard, co-owner of Eye Security, said similar high-severity vulnerabilities have recently been found across cloud infrastructure providers and warned that this flaw could have caused serious damage if attackers had discovered it before Wiz.

Deepfakes and harmful synthetic content have been increasing as the AI tools advance. However, the central government has now approved 13 'Responsible AI' projects which are focused on developing the deepfake detection technologies.  Along with funding research, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has also introduced stricter rules for social media platforms, including Meta and X, to ensure faster action against fake content. The government said the combined focus on regulation and technology will help improve online safety and strengthen efforts to identify manipulated content before it reaches a wider audience.

Speaking at Lok Sabha, the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada announced the measures. He said that AI is developing so fast that it's now much easier to make fake content look real. Moreover, he also pointed out that this kind of content can be misused for things like financial scams, stealing people's identities, and spreading false information.

To deal with these issues, the government has tightened the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. Under the new rules which were introduced back on February 10, 2026, the social media platforms must now take down the AI-generated content within just 3 hours of getting a valid order from the government or a court. Prior to the change the platforms had up to 36 hours to respond or remove the content.

The updated rules also reduce the response time for user complaints involving sensitive matters such as impersonation, nudity and other harmful content. Officials said the changes are aimed at ensuring quicker action and better protection for users facing online threats.

Social media companies have also been instructed to clearly label AI-generated content wherever it is permitted. Moreover, they need to have traceable metadata, which will aid in identifying the synthetic media and technical measures, including the use of automated detection systems, to block the transmission of illegal material.

The government has also sanctioned 13 Responsible AI research projects in collaboration with educational institutes to enhance the deepfake detection ability in India. The most important one is Saakshya, which is a multi-agent system for detecting deepfakes and images, currently being developed at IIT Jodhpur and IIT Madras.

Aside from that, the government is also developing AI Vishleshak that can help in identifying the manipulated audio and video files using artificial intelligence. IIT Kharagpur is developing an in real-time voice deepfake detection system, which will detect AI-generated voices in real-time conversations.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has achieved a good start at the Indian box office on its opening day, reportedly pulling in a net collection of Rs 11.88 crore and an overall gross collection of Rs 14.02 crore as of midday on its release date.

Sarvam AI has announced its biggest expansion yet as the Bengaluru-based startup looks to strengthen India's position in the global artificial intelligence race. At its Epoch 2026 event, the company said it is building a one-trillion-parameter foundation model from scratch in India while unveiling a new platform that will allow developers and enterprises to build AI models tailored for Indian languages and use cases. The startup also announced aggressive pricing for its existing AI models, claiming they are significantly cheaper than competing global offerings. Adding to the announcements, Sarvam brought onboard AI researcher Devendra Singh Chaplot, who most recently worked at Elon Musk's xAI, marking a major talent gain for the company.

Sarvam built one trillion parameter model

Speaking at the launch event in Bengaluru, co-founder Pratyush Kumar said Sarvam AI is developing a one-trillion-parameter foundation model in India that will target coding, cybersecurity, scientific research and simulation workloads. He further added that the model is being built from scratch and will be competing with leading global AI systems.

The company also announced pricing for its Sarvam 105B model, stating that the model costs $0.80 per one million blended tokens, compared with $4.50 for OpenAI's GPT-5.4 Mini and $9 for Gemini 3.5 Flash. According to Sarvam, this makes its offering about 5.5 times cheaper than GPT-5.4 Mini and more than 11 times cheaper than Gemini 3.5 Flash.

The company launched Sarvam Vision Edge, a document intelligence platform, alongside Sarvam Vision 2.0, an improved optical character recognition for enterprise document processing, during the event. Talking about the new tools, Kumar said that the Odisha government is already using the technology to digitise and extract information from land records.

Sarvam launches platform to help build India-centric AI models

Aside from the abovementioned, the company also introduced Epoch Builder Edition. It's a platform designed to help developers, researchers and enterprises build, fine-tune and deploy AI models for Indian use cases.

The platform includes new multilingual large language models with 7 billion and 70 billion parameters that support more than 10 Indian languages, including Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Marathi and Bengali. It also provides GPU infrastructure, training tools, curated datasets, deployment options and safety testing features.

Sarvam said the platform is aimed at banks, government departments, startups and research institutions that want to build AI applications using their own data. The company also announced partnerships with three IITs and two state governments for pilot projects in education and public service delivery. Epoch Builder Edition will reportedly enter private preview in August 2026, with a wider rollout planned in the fourth quarter of the year.

Devendra Chaplot joins Sarvam

Lastly, Sarvam said that the AI researcher Devendra Singh Chaplot has joined the company as a part-time advisor. Chaplot most recently worked at Elon Musk's xAI and has also been part of the founding teams at Mistral AI and Mira Murati's Thinking Machines Lab.

Addressing the audience, Chaplot said India needs AI models that can understand the country's languages and cultural diversity. He added that while AI models may become outdated over time, the ability to build and train them remains valuable. Based in Palo Alto, Chaplot will work with Sarvam's new foundational AI research lab in San Francisco.

Asus Pad T3201 has officially launched in India with the Taiwanese giant confirming the India pricing and sale date earlier today. The Asus Pad T3201 marks the company’s return to the Android tablet market and its headline feature is its 12.2-inch OLED display. The Asus Pad T3201 measures 6.5 mm and weighs 523 g and has a fiberglass rear panel. It is available in Pure White colour only. It features a 12.2-inch dual-layer OLED panel with a resolution of 2,800 x 1,840 pixels in a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 92% screen-to-body ratio, which makes it well suited for productivity work alongside entertainment. The 3:2 ratio provides more vertical space than the 16:9 widescreen panels common in most media-focused tablets, reducing the letterboxing effect when reading documents or browsing the web. Asus claims a typical brightness of 600 nits with peak brightness rated at 2,000 nits. The panel is TUV-certified for Low Flicker and Low Blue Light and supports the Asus Pen 2.0 stylus. 

The Asus Pad is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 which is an octa-core chipset clocked at up to 3.35 GHz, paired with 8 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. As per the reports, the Samsung Galaxy S26 FE may launch in September. It is said to get a starting price of around Rs 66,000 with the higher price tags for top variant. The promotional video also offered a first look at Google services like Gemini, Gmail, Google Maps, Search, Calendar, Docs and Photos. Unlike the previous teaser, which showed the phone from an angled perspective, the latest video reveals a clearer rear view of the Pixel 11 Pro.

We can also see the Pixel Glow, a new lighting element integrated around the camera module. In the video, the feature looks like a circular light animation that rotates around the camera housing. They further added that the chipset shortage may stretch into 2028 as well because the demand for artificial intelligence keeps rising. According to reports, the South Korean tech giant has signed long-term supply agreements with leading global customers to secure future business. Samsung sees strong demand ahead

Samsung expects demand for memory chips to remain high because companies continue to expand AI services. The company believes the market will stay short of supply as more businesses build data centres and increase the use of AI tools.

Jaejune Kim, executive vice president of Samsung's memory business, told analysts during an earnings call that the supply shortage is expected to intensify in 2027 compared with this year and is likely to persist into 2028.

Long term supply deals offer stability

Samsung revealed they had secured long-term supply agreements with the world's five largest data centre companies and are close to finalising similar deals with five other major firms. However, the names of the companies which secured the long-term deal still remain under wraps.

According to reports, the contracts will run for at least five years and cover about 60 to 70 per cent of Samsung's future production capacity. The agreements also include advance payments and fixed minimum prices, helping the company plan investments with greater confidence.

Samsung's chip business delivers strong growth

Samsung recently unveiled strong pre-order numbers for its latest smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. On the other hand, the DS division (memory division) at Samsung earned 89.2 trillion won in Q2 2026 operating profit compared to 53.7 trillion won in Q1 2026. This was an impressive rise by 66 per cent quarter-over-quarter, which was a record high. High memory chip costs and the need for AI have been crucial in bringing about this situation.

Microsoft has reported a strong financial quarter, thanks to its cloud and artificial intelligence businesses. The company has posted better than expected results with Azure crossing the annual revenue milestone of $100 billion for the first time. Adding on, CEO Satya Nadella also hinted towards the launch of an AI powered super app later this year.

Sharing the company’s annual performance, Nadella said Microsoft generated over $331 billion in revenue during the fiscal year, while its cloud business contributed $214 billion. The results come as the company continues investing heavily in AI infrastructure and cloud services.

During the earnings call, Nadella stated that Microsoft is gathering several Copilot services into a single AI application. The upcoming platform is said to combine Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Copilot Cowork and Autopilot into one platform. This will allow the users to access multiple AI tools from a unified interface and will take Microsoft towards direct competition from OpenAI and Anthropic.

The company also mentioned about rising adoption of its AI offerings. Microsoft 365 Copilot now has over 30 million paid users showing a great enterprise demand for generative AI users. The company also stated that it is getting less dependent on external AI providers by developing more of its own AI models and custom silicon. As per Nadella, these efforts have improved efficiency while giving customers greater flexibility in choosing AI technologies.

Speaking of the financial side, Microsoft reported free cash flow of $19.6 billion during the quarter, which exceeds analyst expectations despite being lower than the same period last year. The company also revised how it accounts for long-term data centre leases by extending their depreciation period from 15 years to 25 years. The company’s cloud business backlog also increased to $678 billion.

Samsung to exclusively supply OLED panels for MacBooks

Apple is expected to launch 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED touchscreens sometime later this year or early next year. And we have had multiple reports around this. 

Earlier rumours had also suggested that both Samsung Display and LG Display were competing to supply OLED panels for the upcoming laptops. However, as per the latest report, Samsung might have secured the deal after offering its more advanced 8.6-generation OLED production line. LG, on the other hand, reportedly proposed using its older sixth-generation OLED technology.

The newer manufacturing process is also said to be more efficient, which may have played a key role in Apple's decision to reportedly award Samsung exclusive supplier status.

That is not all. The report also says that Samsung is expected to manufacture around 2.5 million OLED display panels for the upcoming MacBook lineup.

All we know about OLED MacBook

OLED panels generally offer deeper blacks, higher contrast, better colour reproduction and improved power efficiency compared to other displays. And since the MacBooks already are known to have the best of screens, OLED could enhance the experience even more. 

Apart from having an OLED screen, the upcoming MacBook Pro is also expected to support touch input, marking another significant change for Apple's laptop lineup. For years, Apple has stayed away from touchscreen laptops but now, that might change. 

That said, it is worth noting that Apple has not announced any OLED MacBooks or confirmed its display suppliers as of now. So, until the company makes an official announcement, it is best to not get too excited about the same.

Microsoft has reported stronger-than-expected quarter results thanks to its cloud and artificial intelligence businesses. The company has also issued an optimistic outlook for the current quarter, easing investor concerns over its massive AI investments and sending its shares sharply higher in after-hours trading.

For the quarter ended June 30, Azure revenue grew 43 per cent year-on-year, comfortably ahead of analysts' expectations of around 40 per cent. Overall revenue reached $90 billion, while earnings per share also surpassed Wall Street estimates.

The company’s guidance for the current quarter further impressed the investors. Microsoft projected revenue above market forecasts and expects Azure to continue growing at a strong pace. It also revised how it accounts for long-term data centre leases, spreading lease costs over 25 years instead of 15. While this reduces reported annual capital expenditure, Microsoft said its overall investment strategy remains unchanged.

“This year, Azure revenue surpassed $100 billion for the first time, and Microsoft 365 Copilot reached over 30 million paid seats, reflecting the confidence customers are placing in us to power their AI transformation. We delivered a strong quarter to close out the fiscal year, highlighted by Microsoft Cloud revenue of $59.3 billion, up 27% year-over-year,” said Amy Hood, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Microsoft.

CEO Satya Nadella said Microsoft’s AI strategy is becoming increasingly independent, with the company developing its own AI models and custom chips alongside existing partnerships. According to him, these efforts have improved efficiency by as much as 40 percent, while giving customers greater flexibility to choose AI models based on performance and cost.

The company has also talked about the growing adoption of AI products. As per the brand, over 30 million paid for the Microsoft 365 Copilot, up from 20 million in the previous quarter. Microsoft disclosed that its cloud business backlog has grown to $678 billion. It also revealed future data centre lease commitments worth more than $329 billion that are expected to begin between fiscal years 2027 and 2033.

During the company's latest earnings call, Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said he believes AI agents will become a normal part of everyday life within the next five years. According to him, these AI agents will do much more than answer questions. They will understand a person's goals and help with daily tasks 24/7. Zuckerberg also said that he could see people using the AI assistants to help them with their finances, health, relationships and household work. He also believes Meta's messaging apps, especially WhatsApp, will play a major role in how people interact with the AI agents.

"I think that it’s extremely unlikely if you look out five years from now, for example - whatever period of time you want - that you don’t have billions of people with a personal agent that understands your goals and that is just working on your behalf 24/7 to achieve your goals in whatever the domain is that you care about," Zuckerberg said.

Zuckerberg also said Meta's messaging platforms will become even more important as AI agents become common. "As we move toward a future where we’re all interacting with multiple agents, I think that WhatsApp and our other messaging surfaces are going to become increasingly important," he said. 

Meta continues to spend heavily on AI, and that is a concern for some investors. The company is investing billions of dollars in AI infrastructure, including a new $14 billion data centre with a partnership with BlackRock.

The company's Reality Labs division, which develops AR glasses and VR headsets, lost about $4.6 billion during the quarter. The division has now lost around $88 billion since 2021. Meta's free cash flow also dropped sharply to $784 million from $8.55 billion in the same quarter last year.

"We believe that there will continue to be a significantly higher margin on selling intelligence rather than selling compute directly, but we think that there’s a big opportunity, obviously, to sell compute as well," Zuckerberg said.

He also said the personal AI agents Meta is building will become "the foundation for our next wave of products and revenue lines in the months and years ahead."

During a recent Q&A session on X, he responded to a fan who asked when GTA 6 gameplay would finally be shown. The insider replied, "I expect to see a fair bit of GTA 6 this month," before correcting himself to say, “August."

While NateTheHate did not explicitly mention gameplay in his follow-up reply, he was responding directly to a question about when gameplay could be revealed. That said, it is also worth noting that he described this as something he "expects" rather than information sourced directly from Rockstar Games.

Now of course, the X post has started gaining attention and fans are expressing their excitement. “Hyped,” commented one user while another said, “Thanks, man”.

Meanwhile, do remember that for now, Rockstar Games has not announced a gameplay showcase or a third trailer. So, until things are made official, it is best to take this information with a pinch of salt and not get too excited. 

GTA 6 is still on track for November launch

Apart from hinting at a possible gameplay reveal, NateTheHate also claimed that GTA 6 remains on schedule for its November 19 launch and is not expected to be delayed again.

Responding to another fan on X, he wrote, "GTA 6 will arrive in November as planned."

The comments come as some fans continue to worry about another delay. After all, the game has already been pushed back more than once, and with less than four months left until launch, Rockstar Games is yet to release a third trailer or any official gameplay footage.

OpenAI president Greg Brockman has shared details about the company's hardware plans. In an interview with Joanna Stern, Brockman said OpenAI is building a family of AI devices and is working on its own chips. Brockman also addressed the lawsuit filed by Apple against the company. He did not comment on the legal case in detail but denied any interest in using another company's confidential information. 

Brockman did not reveal when OpenAI's first family of hardware devices would launch, but he said people should "expect them soon." Reports suggest the first device may be a smart speaker without a display. It is expected to work as a human-like AI companion for use at home.

He also said that OpenAI wants to offer "value over time" and offer a device that's "built for the AI era" and "maximally useful."

During the interview, Brockman asked ChatGPT what OpenAI's first AI device might look like. The chatbot replied, "My take, something ambient and low friction, voice first but not voice only and with a clear privacy signal." When asked if the first device would need a screen, ChatGPT answered, "nope."

Brockman also responded to Apple's lawsuit against OpenAI. Apple has accused the company of trying to collect confidential information from Apple employees during job interviews. The iPhone maker also claimed OpenAI's hardware work depends on information taken from Apple.

He repeated OpenAI's earlier position, saying, "I would say that we have no interest in other companies' trade secrets. We are plenty innovative. We are thinking about things from our own angle. And so that's how we operate and that's what we do."

He also said, "It's active litigation, so not something that I want to talk about, but all I can say is we're very committed to a long-term roadmap here and that we are focused on our own development and technology. That's what we're interested in."

Furthermore, Brockman admitted that the current ChatGPT app has become complicated after the merger with Codex. He said the app is "kind of a mess" at the moment, describing it as "incremental progress towards the future." He added that the separate Work tab is expected to disappear by the end of the year.

Apple services down: Some Apple services are currently experiencing issues. According to Apple's System Status page, the affected services include the Apple Store, iTunes Store and Mac App Store. The outage began at 5:10 AM and is still ongoing. Here is what Apple’s System Status page reads: "Some users are affected. Users may be unable to make purchases in the iTunes Store, Mac App Store, and App Store."

Like every outage, frustrated users head to X (formerly Twitter) to share their experiences. While one user posted, "Apple’s App Store/rental services are down, so I can’t watch yet. what am I supposed to do now?", another wrote, "Too bad Apple App Store is down."

While Apple's System Status page shows an outage, there have been very few reports on Downdetector at the time of writing. This means that the ouatge may not be affecting a large number of users. For the unaware, Down detector is an online outage monitoring platform where people report outages.

At the time of writing, Apple's System Status page lists the affected services as the Apple Store, iTunes Store and Mac App Store. However, it appears that other services were also impacted earlier and have been restored now. According to 9to5Mac, AppleCare on Device and Subscription Purchase were among the services that were temporarily affected.

The South Korean tech giant is preparing to launch One UI 9 powered by Android 17 on existing Galaxy phones after its announcement through the Galaxy S26 lineup. Cocktail 2 OTT release date and platform

The makers have not officially announced the digital release date of Cocktail 2. However, reports suggest that Netflix has secured the streaming rights of the film. The movie may arrive on the platform on August 14.

Cocktail 2 plot

The story revolves around Kunal and Diya, who have been in a long-term relationship and live together. During a vacation, a joke makes Diya wonder if Kunal has always been honest with her. Wanting to test his loyalty, she asks her close friend Ally to flirt with him. What begins as a simple plan soon becomes complicated. Ally slowly develops genuine feelings for Kunal, changing the lives of all three characters.

According to reports, Cocktail 2 was made on an estimated budget of around Rs 150 crore. The film reportedly earned nearly Rs 13.50 crore at the Indian box office on its opening day.

Vivo is all set to make a comeback of its S with the upcoming S2 series in India. The smartphone lineup will be getting a new addition after nearly six years. While the company has been tight-lipped about the device specifications, leaks and rumours are already painting a clear picture of the device. Furthermore, the smartphone was reportedly spotted on the Geekbench website, giving us more clues about the specifications of the device. Vivo S2: Launch date

Vivo has already begun teasing the upcoming smartphone through its official X handle. Not only that, but Amazon has also gone live with a dedicated microsite for the Vivo S2, signalling that the device launch is just days away. Although Vivo is yet to confirm an official launch date, multiple reports suggest that the smartphone will debut in the Indian market on August 6 and may go on sale starting August 11.

Vivo S2: Specs (Expected)

According to a recent report by 91Mobiles, they spotted a new Vivo device with the code name 'V2576' in the Geekbench database. The smartphone is expected to be the Vivo S2. The report claims that the device scored 998 points in single-core tests, while in the multi-core tests it scored 2,825 points.

Moreover, the specification sheet also reveals that this phone is equipped with Android 16, 8GB of RAM, and a MediaTek MT6878 chipset, which includes 4 performance and 4 efficiency cores working at 2.5GHz and 2.0GHz, respectively. Based on the chipset identifier and CPU layout, the SoC appears to belong to the Dimensity 7300 family. This majorly aligns with the previous leaks that suggested that the device will land with MediaTek's Dimensity 7360 chipset.

Tipster Sanju Choudhary recently shared that the smartphone will be shipped with a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display coupled with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate and curved edges. It's also tipped that the device will house a massive 7050mAh battery and will be supported by 44W of fast charging.

Reports also suggest that the smartphone may land in three colour options, notably white, pink and blue. Out of the box the smartphone may run on OriginOS 6, which is a skin based on Android 16. The device is also said to bag IP68 and IP69 certifications.

In terms of optics, the smartphone is said to come equipped with a dual camera setup and a circular LED light ring at the back. It may include a 50MP primary camera along with a 2MP secondary camera. At the front the handset will likely sport a 32MP camera for perfect selfies and video calls.

Vivo S2: Price (Expected)

Though the official pricings will only be revealed at the time of launch, the leaks suggest that the smartphone could launch with a price tag of Rs 43,000.

If you have been planning to buy a PS5, now is probably the right time (if you can find one in stock). The console, which enjoys massive popularity in India, is apparently set to receive a major price hike in the country. According to a recent tweet by tipster Vinayak Soni, the price of the PS5 Slim will now start from Rs 69,990 in India. This is a massive Rs 20,000 price increase. That said, it is important to note that Sony is yet to officially roll out a statement on the same. Read on to know all we know about the price hike so far.

PS5 Slim set to receive a major price hike?

Soni shared the news of the reported PS5 Slim price hike on his X handle. His tweet reads, “PS5 Slim New Price MRP Sticker MRP: ₹69,990/- Model: CFI-2116A01 Month & Year of Manufacture: FEB 2026 Country of Origin: Vietnam.” He also shared an image of the retail box with the new MRP.  

Soni mentioned in his tweet that the image has been sourced from an authorised seller called Games Marche.

Meanwhile, another authorised Sony Center website has listed the console at the aforementioned price. It is, however, currently out of stock. 

Since Sony has not made an official announcement yet, it remains unclear whether this is a nationwide price revision or if listings across retailers are still being updated. However, if this pricing is indeed true, the PS5 Slim could soon see a huge ₹20,000 increase over its previous starting price in India. 

It is also worth noting that retailers may continue selling existing inventory at the older MRP until fresh stock arrives with the revised pricing.

PS5’s recent decision to go disk-free

This reported price hike comes at a time when Sony has already been making major changes to its PlayStation business. Recently, the company confirmed that it will stop producing first-party PlayStation games on physical discs starting in 2028. After that, new titles from PlayStation Studios will be released only as digital downloads through the PlayStation Store. 

The move is, without a doubt, one of the biggest shifts in PlayStation's history as Sony continues to push towards a digital-first ecosystem. While the company has said that players will still be able to use existing physical game discs and buy compatible third-party physical releases where available, its own future releases will no longer be sold on discs.

For now, Sony has not commented on the reported PS5 Slim price hike in India. Until the company issues an official statement, it is best to take this new information with a pinch of salt. However, if you have been planning to buy a PS5 and manage to find one at its current retail price, it may be worth picking up.
