      I Chose this Z Flip 7 as my replacement when my Flip 4 got broken . Very slightly bigger that the Flip 4 and it has a massive cover screen when folded so much easier to see and use . Very handy to be able to answer calls when still folded. Great camera and the phone feels very good quality. Ordered the orange one and its a stunning colour. I was used to the flip 4 so found it easy to use. Very pleased with it and Amazon had it at a better price then elsewhere.

      I got this phone primarily because I wanted a phone with a smaller footprint. I can fit it in my Gym shorts with their tiny pockets that are too small for a regular phone. That is the main selling point in my opinion, unless you haven't got anything else to be proud of in your life and simply want to show off the fact that you have a folding phone.

      The cover screen is so heavily restricted by Samsung that it's pretty much pointless and flipping open the phone (which I haven't been able to do one handed at all so requires two hands for me) is simply yet another step you have to take before you can use your phone being that the functionality of cover screen is so poor. Under Advanced Features>Labs, you can enable 4 apps to use on the cover screen (Maps, Messages Youtube and Whatsapp), but you can't use the keyboard or reply to messages there, you have to actually take the time to open the phone, which for me is a two handed operation.

      You can put additional apps on the cover screen using the goodlock/multistar/launcher widget route, but just like the advanced features>Labs option you have to unlock the phone to use the apps you've put on the cover screen with good lock. This isn't as easy as it sounds as the fingerprint reader is on the side, so that's just another obstacle and wasted time before you can use your phone again.
      Then when you do open the apps, they often don't display right, so you have to click the aspect ratio button a few times. Trouble is that even if you set the aspect ratio in the launcher widget settings, the apps never remember this and you have to click the aspect ratio button again, and several times if it's the last aspect ratio option you're looking for. Doing this every single time is such a massive pain.

      I have a relatively simple want, and that is for an audiobook player widget to run on the cover screen. I want to be able to quickly turn on the cover screen and access the controls for my audiobook without messing around. It doesn't seem too unreasonable to have media player controls to always show on the cover screen whenever I tap or pick up the phone, but that seems to be impossible at least with first party tools. I may be able to do it with CoverOS, but I need to look into that. You can use the now bar to control media, but the media has to already be playing for the now bar to show up, so if I am turning my phone screen on after not using the phone for a while and I'd like to be able to start my audiobook playing, I have to open the phone unlock it, open the audiobook player and then and only then will I get very basic (and tiny) controls show for the audiobook player. Or if I'm listening to a book then pause it for a little while the now bar disappears and I have to jump through hoops opening the phone up again to get access to the media controls.

      Overall the cover screen seems like it's been designed and implemented by people who don't actually use their phones as it simply adds additional steps and awkwardness to a feature that could and should have provided more convenience.

      You will need a cover for this phone, as it's about as grippy as a greased pig and becomes even more so when you consider you don't just pick it up like a normal phone and look at it, but need to open it too (more than you'd imagine due to the limitations of the cover screen).

      GOOD THINGS:
      Most of my complaining is regarding the cover screen, but I bought the phone thinking it would be a way of having a smaller phone without sacrificing convenience as I had hoped the cover screen would actually be useful in everyday use. Now for the bits I like or at least don't dislike enough to complain about:

      The one area it does shine is for selfies, being able to use the main camera. But I was disappointed that you lose out on a 3x optical zoom lens (like I have on my old phone).

      The crease in the phone is barely noticeable at all when the screen is on. You can feel it, but far less than I was expecting, and actually doesn't get in the way of viewing or touching the phone at all.

      One thing I feel neutral about but did surprise me was how dense it feels in your pocket. You have the weight of a normal phone but in only half the surface area (when folded) so it does feel heavy in the pocket. This is simple physics though, but was something I hadn't thought about.

      The vibration feels punchy and the audio is loud and has a surprising amount of bass.

      I have mixed feelings on Samsung's software, I really like the modes and routines feature - being able to set certain actions to run when certain conditions are met is so useful. However on the other side of the coin, the OS has so much bloat and data collection going on that I do worry a bit about what I'm sharing with Samsung and who exactly they share that data with. I feel privacy could be made more of a concern and more information could be provided. I don't like the fact that there are quite a few apps you cannot uninstall or disable.

      I am currently trying to decide whether to keep this phone or not. I really like the form factor of taking up less space in your pockets (although that said, it's quite wide, very square and I don't find it particularly easy or comfortable to hold. If I'm honest I probably should have gone for the Motorola, with better cameras, better battery life, better CPU, rounded edges for easier holding, any app allowed by default on the cover screen. The reason I didn't was because with the trade in deal I got this phone was cheaper, and Samsung will deliver software updates over 7 years, whereas the Razr 60 is only 3/4 years, and they're still on Android 15, whereas even old Samsung phones like the S22 are already on Android 16.

      Like I said I love the small space it takes up, but flipping open the phone with two hands every time I want to use it is going to get tiring real fast unless Samsung releases a software update to make the cover screen actually useful. It wouldn't take much to allow any apps to run fully functioning on the coverscreen and if they could do it without unlocking the phone that would be even better.

      I’ve had the Samsung Z Flip 7 phone for just over a month. Although I took great care of the phone a hairline crack appeared on the main screen across where the phone bends. I contacted Samsung who arranged for one of their Partners to collect and fit a new screen. The partner emailed to say warranty was void and it would cost me 354.00 to fit a new screen. I will never purchase a Samsung product again. My advice is to avoid Samsung at all costs.
