The B-29 is the only bomber the US had that could carry an atom bomb, but the US had a number of flying boats such as the Boeing 314 Clipper or the Consolidated PB2Y Coronado that could have been modified to carry one. And an island nation has no need to hide the development of large flying boats. | |
