Analiza tanto su formación profesional e intelectual, su entrenamiento en Alemania, y sus estancias de trabajo en Rumanía,  Los Estados Unidos, el Istmo de Daríen y Yucatán, dando un énfasis mayor a ésta última. Reciben especial atención las aportaciones de Schott a los estudios de la botánica, la flora y la fauna de la península, así como a la arqueología y las artes gráficas.
